Description Spidey!

If you recognise the pose, i referenced Joe Mads recent pic but got rid of Hulk and Wolvie.

I also haven't bothered with the falshy ink feathers and stuff cos
1) Its a pain doing that on paper, digitially, its a bitch
2) I suck at that, so I draw like I do when I ink on paper - High contrast marker style!~

Its a bit messy too, but I was watching Man Utd while I drew it last night!

Personally, I'm not such a fan of this because I referenced Joe Mads for this. It's not a genuine show of my talent/lack of from scratch. But it certainly helps me gt noticied from time to time, so in some ways it's useful.

thanks for the comment.

The background is a tad distracting, but the main picture is very well done, especially for digital!

How the heck did you come across this all these months later? o_O
I added the bg cos it woulda been white otherwise, and that's painful to look at

hemostatvampire In reply to smygba [2006-05-31 12:47:28 +0000 UTC]

I have no idea. It was your most favoured. I thought to check it out.

A blank background would be boring I guess.

smygba In reply to hemostatvampire [2006-05-31 12:49:44 +0000 UTC]

Ah cool.
Digital white! Not only is it bland, its too bright, and properly hurts the eyes. I coulda used a neutral colour, but I felt like going a bit mad with the bg.

Great spidey pic mate. Looks real dynamic, and love the dark inking (even if it is done on comp) and the base colours really bring it to life. Nice one.

smygba In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-03-28 15:46:31 +0000 UTC]

Hey, thanks for commenting man. I referenced the top half of the body from a Joe Mad wallpaper I saw, but the spidey had no legs, so I had to add those in myself. I don't actually colour, that's why I just do flats sometimes. Flats also sorta go with my high contrast inking.

Which uni you at?

AngelCrusher In reply to smygba [2006-03-28 16:10:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeh, I was thinking the flats work well with the inks. You made the legs up? Wow. They're awesome, and definately spiderman dynamics in there.

am in the uk studying in the Glamorgan Centre of Arts & Design Technology...or GCADT to be short about it. One of the top animations places in Britain.

Ah, I'm at Loughborough in the East Midlands. Doing Politics with Economics and International Relations. Art or more specifically Comic art is just a hobby of mine. I do wish I'd studied art now though, I realised uni sucks if you pick social sciences because you're forced to learn alot of unpractical bullshit.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to smygba [2006-03-28 21:27:59 +0000 UTC]

lol as compared to studying animation where we draw non stop and watch cartoons.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

smygba In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-03-28 22:21:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeh but studying animation is still technically learning, and problem some practical based learning too. I guess if you're into it, however, it's more enjoyable.

AngelCrusher In reply to smygba [2006-03-28 22:29:31 +0000 UTC]

ah, the double edged sword. Catch 22, you like drawing, and so you gotta draw lots to get anywhere. I dont mind animating...although hated doing a bird and cars. The worst thing is writing film essays and presentations.

It was that bg or plain white!
I got alot of positive responses for this, but like Batman its was referenced off Joe Mad. I added a leg because the original image didn't have that, but part of the great gesture isn't my brain. I did an overlay once I was done, and found My spidey is more pumped then Joe Mads. I also drew it in high contrast while Mads had feathers + Hatches, so theres a fair amount of me there I guess.
Thanks for the response.

This is nice, Dave! I think a good and pretty accurate duplication of Joe's SM. I like the pose a lot, and the effect you're getting with your new style is pretty cool!

Now, if you can teach me about flatting, that'd be boss ...

In my favorites is a coloring tutorial from PS that I've used fairly successfully, though nothing I'd brag about or post. If you want to look through them and find it, use it as reference; it may help. I wish I could remember the artist's name to give them proper credit, but ... ?

Anyway, keep it up! I'm sure once we "master" digital art we'll NEVER go back!

nice work mate, i like it. i suppose its more about the practice you get using the digital watcha-call-it, so the reference thing is cool. yeah, i cant even begin to imagine how effin annoying feathering is with a tablet, so yeah. your technique seems to be really coming along. i like the stuff you did for the sketchbook too, im filling an a5 one at the mo, its fun but most of the pages simply embarass me. anyway, keep it up, keep submitting and ill keep commenting, i think thats a deal i can stick with.

laters.

smygba In reply to rupertsmissen [2005-10-25 20:12:28 +0000 UTC]

When it comes to working digitally I'm hit or miss. And I only display anything that sorta hits the target. Right now I'm doing a Street Fighter II draw off piece digitally, and it is going so wrong I might just withdraw then die of the embarrassment. It doesn't help I can't colour my pieces (I can flat them, but then any monkey can!) so working in high contrast seems to work well with the flats.

I know the way I'm using photoshop isn't how other digital artists use it (they use things like paths which I don't even know about), but then I'm too lazy to find out, and from what I seen, it won't allow me the same level of freedom I currently enjoy by just drawing. Plus the fact programs like Illustrator smooth out the line just makes it look too digital.

I prefer working on paper, and I can work better digitally with basic pencils I scanned in beneath. Its only cos I'm stuck at uni with no acces to a scanner I work 100% digitally, and oddly I can't seem to get my proportions right, and forshorten well as a result! I've yet to start drawing inside my sketchbook, mainly because it seems pointless if no one can rate it. Besides, once I finish Street Fighter, I'm moving onto my Comic Project!~
It'll suck balls, so paper planning will be key. And if the artwork sucks, I'll claim I heard Frank Miller inks with his dick ¬_¬
