On my petacheren askblog, one of the most common questions I received was "Are you a ditto/Where's the real Cheren". I thought it would be kind of disappointing if Petacheren was really a Ditto, so I made a ditto who's more like canon Cheren.Except I got bored of that really quickly, so I made Ditto into more of a foil for Cheren.
