My titles are highly inspired, I know.Sam suggested that I draw Cloud as a pirate, so I was just gonna doodle him something small. Then I decided to draw something fancier, and this is how it ended up...
Colouring was on and off for about a week. I had to scrap it three times and start over because I wasn't happy with the lighting... It was originally this really dull, dark grey lighting. Now I'm thinking more Twilight Realm or Xibalba from The Fountain, though it's not anywhere near as awesome as either :B
Oh yeah, the label on the rum is a swirly version of the FFVII meteor logo.
Mechanical pencil, coloured on Photoshop Elements 3.
Cloud belongs to Square, his pirate garb came to me in the middle of the night.

It was just that for a split-second, it looked like you had gone and put a bow in his hair.
But hey! If nothing else this is a testament to how much you've progressed in a single year. That's tremendous. You should really pat yourself on the back for that one!

No, I was trying to nod in the direction of KH's Cloud/Vincent combo with the bandana XD;;;;
God, it wasn't so long ago that I was sitting in this same spot, painting for hours and thinking, "Could this be my greatest work to date?! :'D"
It's still got a special place in my heart c':
And it taught me a lot about painting in general, too! Like "dear god why can't I draw a decent nose for the life of me, I can't paint this stupid ugly line" cx
I liked the stories I came up with for all his accessories, though~
That was probably the most fun I had with it c':

We all have a piece like that. Mine is sitting framed in a plastic bag under my bed. I thought it was the best I had done at the time, but looking at it now, my inner perfectionist wishes to burn it so that it may never have to surface again! Alas, that is how these things work, I'm afraid...

I have a box of them heavier than I am, and it sits next to my bed XD;;
Every time, I think what I'm drawing is the greatest thing I've ever done... and the second I finish it, I hate it D8
(Or at least, that's how it used to go XD;; I'm a happier artist nowadays~)

They're pretty dumb though, I warn you in advance \o/
Well, the bandana is just meant to keep the hair out of his face when he's at sea.
The leather gauntlet is there to protect a handkerchief that's tied round his arm, which he got from Aerith before leaving his hometown.
The coat has "Seventh Heaven" embroidered on the back, and it's from Tifa's bar, where he stayed when he was washed up after a wreck.
Both the scars are from the wreck, too.
In fact, most of the plot had to do with the fact that the boat he and Zack were on went down in a mako pool cx
Cloud's eye was injured by a piece of broken wood, but that and the rest of his wounds were healed in the mako. His ruined eye went a bit weird, and it hurts a lot if he tries to look through both eyes at the same time, so he wears a patch.

Well, speaking as a storyteller -- or, as a tale-spinner, if you like 
For example, when I started out with the fanfiction, the basic idea was a whole "what if" scenario, and then I proceeded to go through and find plausible justifications for each "what if" -- including the chances of Sephiroth having grown up with a female counterpart, a.k.a., Cossette. The biggest challenge there, however, was writing the damn thing so it didn't come off as some sort of cracked-out Mary-Sue-based fanfiction -- and believe it or not, it's a constant struggle to maintain the anti-Mary-Sue front!
Believe me, it almost DIDN'T get written because the whole thing seemed so crap at first.

I mean, I like the ideas myself, and I worked hard to develop them, but they all seem silly when I start telling them to someone else cx
Probably had something to do with my sister reading over my notes, and then bursting out in hysterics.
I found out later she was just laughing because I'd written in the corner "He's the One-Winged Angel... of the SEA! 8D" but still, the damage was done XD;;
I've been looking through my old fanfics from years looong past, and they're full of terrible self-insert Mary-Sueish OCs XD;;;;;
Just makes me appreciate the spectacular effort you put into keeping yours realistic and part of the FFVII world all the more c':

Yeah, I know what that's like -- having people rattle your confidence without really meaning to. It sucks, I know.
But, it's these things that help us grow for the better. It may not seem like it at the time, but that's where it is.

People used to come along and snatch my paper straight out from under my hands, honest to God, and put their sweaty little fingers all over it so it was smudged beyond recognition.
What's worse is the rare times when my dad comes along to see what I'm drawing, and it always happens to be some form of naked male torso. Oi~ =_=;;
My poor eyes, I can barely see straight now... cx

People always ask me to draw them, too... there's just no nice way of saying "You are ugly, I don't want to look at you longer than I absolutely have to." XD;;;;

Thing is, there are three friends of mine I like drawing (like, when we're in class and I sneakily sketch them when they're not paying attention~ *is a creep*) because they're pretty, and they sit in positions that are actually interesting to draw.
But then everyone else starts flocking over and taking up these static poses for me, and all the spontaneity is lost D':
And there's not really another place I can go and draw people from life who'll stay still for any amount of time. All the life drawing classes I've looked up in my area won't allow children in :c

There's a reason why they won't let kids in. The models for those classes pose in the nude. Over here, you have to be AT LEAST eighteen in order to apply...
