Greetings from ProjectComment !
Love the fact that this creature is essentially the whale equivalent for a world where the ocean is toxic. It's massive size, the fact that it eats small critters with what looks like a baleen esque structure, and the usage of loud sounds to communicate. Actually the more I think about it the more this creature resembles a flamingo in the sense that flamingos live off the critters living in caustic lakes and use their long legs to keep them out of the water as they sieve them out. Personally I think the density change mechanism in the leg is unnecessary as the creature itself resembles a giraffe in form and we all know they don't have such a mechanism. Although I would still kinda accept something like buoyant bladder in its upper leg to sorta help it float in the ocean. Combine that with a dense foot and you've got yourself a creature that can seemingly stand upright in the ocean despite there being no solid ground, wading through the ocean. I suppose if you want to add to the sense of mysticism to creature with it being too heavy to stand upright and whatnot, you could definitely add more visual weight to the body.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I'll think of a better use of the density mechanic or just delete it overall.
Thanks for the feedback!

Oooh! It even has a description with realistic, science-based facts explaining why parts of the body are the way they are. I love it! Can't wait to see more. ^^

Initially this creature reminded me of the film version of The Mist, but less ominous and more friendly. Actually, I think there was a dude like this in Samurai Jack, too. That isn't bad by any means! We all have similar cultural context that influences our ideas. What's cool is that even though the basic, raw idea has been done here and there, you've developed yours into something profound and unique!
I love the wispy, almost gravity-defying tendrils of algae coming off of its back. It definitely gives off an ethereal but non-threatening vibe. Even this is well-developed and well thought out! I love the idea of this gentle giant roaming the waters without much of a care. It would be cool to see a colored version with a simple background -- just a day in the life of Colossal. Keep up the neat work!

I agree that influences don't mean something is copied, but your wrong here, sorry. I never watched the Mist and I don't remember a single episode from Samurai Jack, though I used to watch it when I was a very young kid.
I basically started with a gigantic-four legged beast with 3 mouths that roams the land like 3 years ago then revisited the concept, moved it to the water and made it eat little animals like whales (that's where the main idea for the mouth comes from). I thought out all of the details later.
Thanks for the feedback tho, it's greatly appreciated.
Also, I'm already working on a colored version just like I'll do for every creature on svitt, but it ain't gonna be a peaceful one. Check out my profile every now and then if interested, and have a good day!

Oh yes, I didn't mean to imply that you drew inspiration at all. I just appreciate knowing what my work is similar to (so I can make sure mine is different) so I tried to do the same for you.

I always like seeing a nice well thought out creature design. Especially if the world has substance and has potential to tell a lot of interesting stories.
This kind of reminds me of the designs from the Mechanical Dream roleplaying game. It's pretty obscure but it is very alien and very well thought out. A roleplay game without a human race is pretty unique already! It's currently out of print and pretty much impossible to find, but it had a really nice ecosystem.
For some reason, your creature reminded me of huoras, which are huge creatures that nomadic tribes use as their tribe's mobile home. They are big and have lots of long legs they use to keep themselves high up on huge trees that are key to the setting.
If you had a chance to get a hold of their dream aspect book or the beastiary, I think you would find them quite fascinating.

I love how you've intertwined this organism with it's ecosystem. Doesn't just seem plopped into it's home planet (like some I see by other artists), rather a lot of thought has gone into the relationships it has with it's environment and other organisms.
Picturing the algae growing on it makes it seem almost like part of the environment.
One concern is that at the depth the legs go, the water pressure and resistance, perhaps even deep currents, might snap the legs even if they are very dense. Perhaps if they not only change density in response to currents and resistance, but also the shape, this might make it more stable. For example, being able to flatten parts of the leg so it cuts through an oncoming current (or when taking a stride).
I know this is a bit unrelated, but how did you get the brush strokes to taper off to a fine point so nicely? Did you use the fingerpaint tool? If so, how did you overcome the weird rainbow edge issue? Looks nice for digital sketches.
Over all it's looking good!

I've written this reply 3 times already and accidentally deleted it every time...
Thanks for the feedback, it's greatly appreciated. I'll explore the Colossal and other parts of his life in my next few paintings, including the little bird-thingies.
I'll fix the legs if I get the time, special thanks for that!
As for the brushes, I draw on Krita 3.0.1 (which is free) and use a Wacom tablet that has pressure sensitivity. And I have no idea what rainbow edges are so I don't know how I overcame them.
Again, thankss for the feedback and let's both keep improving each other's alien worlds!
