Description Copic marker and ZIG Millenium Pigment liners on A4 Copic (bleed proof) Marker paper.

I ahve to say that a TON of trial & error occurred with this illustration. I finally decided that this one was good enough for government work!

This is Morigan and Felicia from Capcom's Darkstalkers (or Vampire Hunter) video game series. Felicia is in her cat form and Morigan is...well...deciding on what to do with her...

PS: YAY!!! GOT NEW SCANNER AND IT'S LOVERLY!!1

UPDATE: Sorry guys/gals I found that the scanner's color profile couldn't properly detect the Violets and Purples that I actually used. Also, the paper grain was too evident. So I am re-uploading with a new color adjusted scan that 'more' accurately represents the colors. Also, I scanned the image using a clear piece of plastic to smooth things out. It now appears more like the original and less like a sacn Enjoy.

I like the way her torso is twisted. But I'm not into the green hair and purple tights. That's just moi though. Its a great illustration. Good work.

Thanks. Those japanese love strange color combinations Actually Green and purple are a good color combination, so i can't blame them

I know that they are 'supposed' to go together, but i've never liked that color combo.

very sexy work! I think the scan looks just fine. After seeing this, I am even thinking of scanning my next series.

Snigom In reply to odavis [2007-04-05 12:45:18 +0000 UTC]

WEll the previous scan detected the reddish purple as a blue-violet. Then, the blue-violet was detected as blue. So I basically color corrected so that it matched the original Also I find that subtle shading gets lost in scans. To rectify the problem, use a sheet of clear polyurethane or plastic. (like a photo album sleeve. It will give the art a smooth, almost photographic appearance

Thank you! I was trying to do a pose I normally dont (I have drawn tons of women shifting to one side of thier hip, but never twisting around in that postion tilting thier head )

I loves the Copics

Awesome! I love how vibrant the color is. I saw that Copic markers were on sale at Hobby Lobby when I went to get my supplies for the big Godzilla project I will be starting soon. I would really like to try them out, but just a little apprehensive about how they work, like how well they blend or shade, and how the ink flow is, heavy or light, and is that easily adjustable with hand pressure.

I'm sorry if I sound retarded, but is there any way you could describe the pros and cons about them, because I don't want to invest in them if they won't work for me.

Snigom In reply to D-Angeline [2007-04-04 21:47:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you I love Copic markers. The 'Sketch' Copic markers (the ones hobby Lobby sells) have a special point. They're a flexible rubber-like-sponge tip the shape of a brush. It allows you to brush on color. I have found that certain colors tend to ooze out more so than others. Also, when they start to dry they will be light. The ink is pigment suspended in Alcohol. So when you use the marker, the ink is going to dry very fast (within 2-4 seconds or faster.)

The main thing is paper selection. The best over all paper I used and liked is Bristol Board (Strathmore). The next issue is what ink won't smudge. I have finally found that ZIG Millenium pigment liners won't smudge with a 98% chance. There are Copic Multi-Liners, but they are sold out everywhere I go

It's not that hard to be blending. The next time they are on sale, try to get about 3 of every color. Pay close attention to the number/letter system. For example:

R = RED
BV = BLUE VIOLET

The number is in 2 parts. Like 02. The first number is the color category: 0. The Second is the value: 2. So R02 is RED category 0 (which is usually 'light colored' and with a value of 2. So this would be a very light-colored flesh. When you match up your colors you'll want things like:

R30, R33, R39. This is Crimson red and it just gets darker and darker.

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain these to me, what you have said has been very helpful. I wasn't aware that they used a number/letter system, and I will keep that very much in mind when I go there next. I will definately get as many as I can afford, lol! Thanks again.

That's a good idea, the buy just a few part, LOL. I have tried messing with them in the store, doesn't produce the best results, I couldn't glean anything from them then, but now that I know more, it MIGHT help a little, hehe.

I'm not surprised. Copics seem to be the favorite for concept artists. They have great and vibrant colors, but they're just so darned expensive!

Coolness! I use Mame32..which is the arcade But I have this game on the Dreamcast as well. I am not 100% certain that code works on a console. Sometimes they port over the exact arcade codes and sometimes they make up new ones
