Description As the Roman Empire crumbled and the province of Gaul was left to its own fate, a leader named Clovis stepped forward to assert himself as the official ruler of the region. The son of Childeric I and a founder of the Merovingian dynasty, Clovis was successful in uniting the Franks into one kingdom, and establishing France as a Christian country with his personal conversion from paganism to Catholicism, thus instigating a new era in Western European history.
Although a baptized Christian, Clovis was certainly not a pacifist. Reigning during a period in which chaos and violence were rampant (they were called the Dark Ages for a reason), rulers were obligated to exercise levels of harshness in order to maintain authority and impose law, and Clovis was definitely an effective ruler. His military victories and policies brought his people under one banner, and created the foundation for a nation.
_________

Since primogeniture was not practiced by the kings, it led to repeated fissions of the kingdom under his sons.

Dagobert I (of St.Eloi ) was the last Merovimgiam of any real power (d.639) .Afterwatfs the kings just lolled around, eating, drinkig and pulling maids into bed with them. At times, they'd be paraded around on a chair to inform the people that they have a king !

There came a day when Pepin III, majordomo of all the Franks, asked the pope  for the title & dignity of king as he had all the power & authority of such. As he owed Pepin III one, he agreed - to Kimg Theuderich IV's displeasure.

* Eloi, Eloi, why don't you die ? - from an old song about Dagobert and his bothersome advisor St. Eloi.

Oooh, awesomely drawn! I wish I could draw this well.
Each character has a special unique expressive face -- even the horse!

Thank you for noticing. I actually did a draft before this, but the horse had too much of a blank look on his face, so I did it over.
