Betty Boomer had been in the garage ever since she can remember. Whenever her grandpa was working on his old mini with his trusty pipe wrench, she was there to give him a helping hand and a warm smile. Greasy clothes and oily fingers never bothered her, and she always got in trouble for never wanting to wash the grime off them. Her grandfather encouraged her to tinker with tools, and start making things as soon as possible. She loved working on machines, and built everything from automated kitchen robots to small scale rockets from a small age.

When her grandfather passed away, she was devastated. He didn't have much to leave her in his will, except his trusty old mini and his favourite rusty pipe wrench. Betty was already a great inventor at this time, and she was eager to show the world her stuff. She signed up for the “Dark Matter Races”, which had become the latest, most threatening motorsport of the 22nd century. Contestants had to build their own vehicles, powered by a very fragile and delicate Dark Matter engine, which converted plain air into dark matter for use as fuel.

Fueled by excitement and her grandfather’s love, she turned his old mini into a Dark Matter Race Car. She entered the racing tryouts, and even though she lost almost every race, she kept on coming back. Finally she won the tryouts after her 32nd race, and went on to the Formula Dark. This was the big league, and would take her and her mini around the world. The races did allow some friendly competition, to help give the races more interest. Betty invented a Dark Matter Gravitron Cannon, which would fire out of the trunk of the car. Anything caught in the radius of the Gravitron Ball would gain ten times its weight for a few seconds.

Betty soon became a famous racer in the Formula Dark, and went on to win the world championship 7 times in her career, all the while sticking to her trusty mini and pipe wrench. Even though she was old, no one could beat her on the race track. Her opponent’s always underestimated her when they saw her, but to their own undoing. Betty Boomer was the best racer there ever was in the Dark Matter Races.
