America wished to remain an isolationist country and in cost of that millions of lives were lost. UNTIL they finally stepped up at the attack at Pearl Harbor. Its debatable for many reasons
One of them being how much it impacted the war wether they joined or not. I mean they kept a distnace to keep their people safe yet millions died at cause of that.
Just like there are bad people there are good people and America is no different
