I really want to learn how to do that. Did you use an external flash?

snowunmasked In reply to FreeSpiritFotography [2010-05-11 20:28:30 +0000 UTC]

Nope Didn't use any kind of flash here.

Wha?

So then it's got to be about the ISO and aperture, right?

snowunmasked In reply to FreeSpiritFotography [2010-05-12 18:14:01 +0000 UTC]

And shutter-speed Gotta keep everything wide open in this dim light, but balanced enough so the coloured lights don't become washed out.

awesome pic...how did u get that zooming light effect thing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snowunmasked In reply to zxtan [2009-08-10 16:10:43 +0000 UTC]

Just pull and push the lens right when the shutter is clicked

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zxtan In reply to snowunmasked [2009-08-11 12:07:23 +0000 UTC]

Can u explain it in detail? Coz I really want to take a pic like that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snowunmasked In reply to zxtan [2009-08-11 14:02:08 +0000 UTC]

That's pretty much it. Using a dSLR or SLR camera, right when you click the shutter, manually zoom the lens by very quickly pushing and pulling it (like cocking a gun?). Of course this would only work if you had a zoom lens, not a fixed lens. You COULD (if you have a fixed lens) simply hop backwards and forward very quickly right when you click the shutter.

Is it only me or is this picture exactly like a face? Those two yellow lights are eyes, blue light is a long nose and road is a mouth.
Ahh, what ever, its a beautiful picture.

I don't know how the title came about... I think I was influenced by my husband's photography... well he wasn't my husband at the time

In this picture, I see the Tsing Ma bridge in the center-the small white dots, sorry I mixed up with the other one, it's all my fault.

It's not a problem. I dig this shot and the one of the other bridge anyway. We'll shoot it next time

I find the black on the right a bit unsettling... Like I just want to grab the non-black and scoot it over so there's less of it and my mind is thinking "Any minute now the camera is going to pan to the left... aaaaany minute." but it doesn't happen. And I know how much you haaaaate it when people bug you about the framing... Butbutbut... If you halve the black and crop off two lights until the top of the column thingies with the string of bulbs (basically to the same ratio it is now) and it'll be perfect. It's just a balance issue for me.

Still insanely jealous of the camera.

snowunmasked In reply to shyva [2007-05-08 13:50:24 +0000 UTC]

Yep, you're right on how much I dislike when people bug me about composition ;] but there you go. I like it this way. I adjusted all the settings and the positioning of the camera just so I could get that whole bunch of black on the right side, just coz... idno. It just adds something more to the imagination?

Rules are made to be broken, sometimes :)

But thank you, really. Your comments are always so awesome.

Oh I see you are getting into night photography with your recent devs!

Heh, reminds me of the style I use to shoot, really high contrast and lots of bold light, so you can imagine how much I like it.

Have to say I like the profile of the 5d, the noise is really minimum and the details are really nice in the shadows, yadda yadda just saying you did a great job processing it, looks good.

Yes :) The night offers so much more mystique... everything seems more vibrant in the dark. Love it.

And yes, the 5D is an awesome camera. Even WITH noise, it still looks good

I want so much to shoot with you

It looks like a person running on the road and leaving behind trails of lights! It's pretty cool how you got that effect since I don't really think it's a person running with trails of lights behind him.

I had some other funny ones in this shoot, using my hand and stuff to catch the light or whatnot, but I decided not to put them up
