Description Taken at Festival Walk , Hong Kong.
Some guy teaching his daughter how to walk.

This was something nice, for a change.
Generally, people don't like being photographed.
Especially in Hong Kong.
I wasn't exactly up close but the guy saw me.

"Look at the pretty lady taking pictures of you!"

Wow :]
That felt so awesome.
And the guy kept walking her around in front of me.
Sort of showing her off in the most subtle way possible.

...

And then some security guy came over.
He was nice. Said I'm lucky I'm a girl.
Advised kindly that it's not a good idea to point "long" lenses at stores in a mall.
Might be mistaken for paparazzi sneaking shots of celebrities in the changing rooms.
Or stealing ideas from jewellery stores or whatever.
If I want to take pictures, get a friend to stand in front and "pose obviously".
Thanks very much, miss, have a nice day.

... okay.

Well I still got this :] happiest baby girl. And a giant mole

Enjoy, people, and thanks for looking.

:) I love this shot too. It was part spontaneity and part actual planning. I was lucky for the fact that the guy looked at me and smiled. It was awesome when he told his daughter, "Look at the pretty lady taking photos of you!"

Hehe.

I think that's great too! Your story is so unique, and not many photographs even have stories behind them. Most of mine were just taken driving around. This really shows your matuerity as a photographer!

I sometimes try to draw ppl on the street, and the same thing happens. I try to pretend I'm just writing on a notebook or something and it sometimes works lol

aww...this one made my heart melt, lol. the girl's really cute, and it's really nice to know that the parent was cool with u taking shots of the girl...i know how annoying pple can be when u just want to get a cool photograph and they get annoyed when u point the thing at them, so...i'm glad this all worked out for u.

this is good as a b/w pic, made me stare at it for a long time. i like the composition of this one, and wierdly enough the thick dark line behind actually framed the picture more and made it more interesting and not so flat. i also like how the parent's face is peeking into the frame holding the little girl up while keeping the focus on the girl as the eye travels around the picture.

what i find a little disturbing is the stuff on top of the picture. i know u blurred it out to keep the focus on the pple, but maybe if u cropped it just a widdle bit more it'll be better? its not a major problem, but its a little distracting, that's all. the composition could also be improved by letting the little girl's arm in tho, if this pic was cropped out that is. it might balance out the pic more if u leave a wider white area with the girl's arm. but then again, it might warp the portrait size u were going for, so...hmm...

all in all, a good shot, i really like the natural expression on the girl, but the parent's one is a little "hmmm"-able, if u get what i mean. nice job!

Thanks :]

I didn't "blur out" the top of the picture. I don't mess with that kind of stuff in post-editing anymore. The camera gets exactly the DOF that I want. That and edited DOF always looks kind of cheesy in my eyes. Fake. I like it. It shows depth. That, and if I cropped it, the guy would lose a lot of the top of his head and look retarded, at least to me. I didn't crop this picture at all. This was taken spontaneously. I did try to get what I want in the shot. They were moving around a lot. I took a lot of them but I like this one the best because the guy just happened to look up. The arm doesn't matter to me. It's not about the arm. It's about a dad walking his daughter around, both of them being happy. idno. Maybe I see different things in this picture. But thanks for suggesting :]

oh okay, i thought the blurness was messed around in ps or smth, sorry. but ure right tho, his head might looked lopped off if u cropped too much, that's y i figured maybe a little might help. but in this case, its probably too much, so that's okay. considering this is a spontaneous shot, i understand how hard it is for u to get what u want in the picture...so like i said, i do like this shot; i just thought i'd mention a few stuff that's all.

erm...what's idno btw? sorry, i'm not that savvy with shortforms...

Whenever you get a picture of a child, you always seem to capture a strange kind of innocence you woulden't see if you just saw a kid wandering about being the menace it was born to be. It's always kind of impressive. I don't normaly like kids but your pictures always make them look pretty sweet.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

snowunmasked In reply to Unimatsuriku [2005-12-13 04:08:06 +0000 UTC]

What do you not like about kids? Kids can be annoying... I guess I've just been lucky. Chidren are fascnating, to me. Their emotions and expressions are just so pure and untarnished :] I try to capture that

Unimatsuriku In reply to snowunmasked [2005-12-13 09:29:39 +0000 UTC]

I guess kids just agravate me like an alergy or somthing... but once I'm with a kid I generaly tend to be more playfull with them. As long as the kid isn't a mean little sod or a hyperactive 'energizer bunny' that is. I guess your right, kids emotions are pure and I think you capture that well.

I guess.

It's just kinda cool to think that this Earth that we're chilling on used to be so different. And there were flippin DINOSAURS, not people, who were ruling the Earth. Fucking so many of them, too. On every continent. And they're so big. And god knows what they really looked like. They looked pretty darn cool in Jurassic Park. idno. Just gets my imagination going, I guess :] that or just me being lame.

hehe, good point. I guess it is pretty mindblowing to consider they used to exist everywhere and then got nuked by an asteroid... woulden't an explosion like that leave a crator? If thats the case which crator of the modern day was the one left by that explosion?

snowunmasked In reply to Unimatsuriku [2005-12-19 22:26:25 +0000 UTC]

The weather's pretty good here. It is California. It can get way chilly though. I wear gloves sometimes but they really inhibit my typing. I have those finger mittens but that won't do much since it's my fingers that are cold, and they don't really warm up that much from typing
