Companion piece to "The Night and His Usurper"
I tried making a wallpaper however it really just doesn't cut it - when viewed side by side, in person, the effect is that much more dramatic. I'm a big fan of the relationship between the three wounds on the left, and the hand clenching at the chest at the right.
For me there is a more personal attachment to this piece than the other... the joys and woes of mortality, fear of death, et cetera... anyway, hope you guys enjoyed this two part series

Flowers... can there ever be enough of them? 
I think this little series was successful and if I should ever redo them again, they'd be in oils, not watercolour

Beautiful work! I love the symbolism in this painting (even if I can't understand everything). The pose is really dramatic but the colors are so worm and calming somehow.

I think i like this one a bit more than the other, i think it's the net grabing the arm and his hands grabing his chest. It's just wonderful.

thick and ethereal atmosphere. it's the fine line between what we are willing to give and what we willingly let others take. he protects the one thing he covets under the weakening skin of his left breast. not the heart itself, but what the heart beats for while it can.
it's a gorgeous trick how the lines and shadows of his hands are darker, they draw my eye straight to them as the most important elements. the flesh colors almost blend into the background making his 'presence' larger than his form. i love how the last dying flower meets at the spine where the bones were in the other one...the similar compositional balance strengthens the concept. i agree too, it's more striking to keep them a little separate.

It wasn't my intention to bring emphasis to the hands although I do love that accident, as it is... plus I love rendering hands
The flesh colour was kind of a challenge because of how it looks when "absorbed" by the intense light of a sunset; in the end I got it right though I think.
Keith talked a little about their juxtaposition... it's quite fascinating what he can see from what I didn't plan at all.
