Description "There is no lid, you need no lid;
I trust you'll never leave me."

B A C K S T O R Y _

I really do keep a jar, one that I've had since I was very young.
I'd tell it all my secrets and then I'd screw the lid down tight.

No one knew of this, and I kept this jar high, safe, and hidden.
For all my care and devotion, I believed it would reciprocate,
and offer words of comfort for my confessions of fear and doubt.
But all my life, it listened, and only listened.

Now I hold a different sort of jar, one without a lid.

I still keep the one I've had for all those years; it was a friend.
One whose surface would fog up for the breath of my words,
whom I'd always loved and confined to. I was content.
It was so precious to me that I was able to do anything for it,
even as far as making my mind believe the love was real,
that there really was a voice.

But I need not pretend any more.
Not since I heard a tiny voice from within.
A voice that spoke as much as it listened.

Light of my eyes, joy of my life.

We found each other in the dark.

Dedicated to you , the voice in my jar.
Happy 19th birthday. I love you.

I can't believe I've never noticed this. It reminds me of a song by Bassic (Televisionary).

how it reminds YOU... or me?

It reminds me of the little bits of conversations taken from tv that just sort of trail off in the song. It sets a really nice atmosphere

Yeah... ugh... it's terrible. Sometimes I get apple juice when we stop at Dunkin Donuts on the way to school/work in the morning. It takes a while to wash the nasty taste out of my mouth until the juice actually tastes good.

We had a Krispy Kreme... I was so excited when it opened, since we had them in Florida. It was extremely popular, you had to wait forever in line to get anything.

Then a few months later it closed. I have no idea why Dunkin' Donuts has the best coffee... but I hate their doughnuts, I really do. Krispy Kreme's are the only doughnuts I'll eat.

I'm not sure, I know the recipe for their doughnuts was bought from some chef (I think in New Orleans, but I may be wrong). We've been forced to hear about Krispy Kreme in my microeconomics class over and over in light of the one nearby that closed after being so popular.

This piece has more colors, more life and definitely more story to it than your other ones. :] I like how the light is focused on the girl's face and chest, bringing focus to her lips, which talks into the jar, and her chest, where her heart is. :] The facial structure changed from the previous pieces too, it's more detailed and more abstract. I could tell it's the same person in "Come Find Me" and "Gone" but it could almost be anyone in this piece. :] I don't want to pry but I'm curious to know if you made this piece for the same person as you did for "Come Find Me" and "Gone," since you changed your style so drastically. Maybe it was a turning point in your relationship or just a new relationship? Great work! :]

clairector In reply to clairector [2006-02-19 07:39:25 +0000 UTC]

I kinda figured out that it was you, since I saw your pictures in your galley. :] I noticed the change in the style because in "Come Find Me" and "Gone" and maybe even "Between," I could see the same facial structures, like the style was more realistic. Maybe you had a picture as a referene. But with "Miracle in a Jar," the details are less and it's like you're more comfortable with yourself to not have to draw yourself with such exactness. :] In a way, those pieces with you as the exact model seem almost like self portraits, just the ones that are less doable in real life. But with the more abstract style, I feel that you're moving on from focusing on you and start to focus on your emotions and the world around you. :] Please don't take any offense.

It is the same person - me :] And no this piece was not made for the same person as I did for "Come Find Me" and "Gone". Those were for one person, this one "miracle in a jar_", is for another, *Nicoh , my boyfriend :]

It's very observant of you to see the difference in the styles :] but ya I'm evolving and trying to find my own style. Thank you for your time

I never took any offence; it's kind of hard to piss me off

I was also dabbing into a more childlike style, like for children's illustrations. I like drawing children and soft facial structures. I have a thing for children, in a non-Michael-Jackson kind of way.

:]

Don't worry.

It's good to know your love for children is not the same kind that Michael Jackson has for them. ;]

You do have a special talent for making cute pieces, "Test Tube Babies," "Miracle in a Jar," "The Great Adventure" and so on. Have you tried anything in the horror genre? Perhaps something to scare the children, so to speak? ;]

This is really sweet, Katie. I find the glow inside and outside the jar to be a lot more then aesthetic, it signifies to me how special it was and how safe it made you feel. The warmness of the glow is another aspect of that, as I've always linked warm colours to a sort of comfort and cosiness. Apart from the fact I'm rambling on I was at a loss of words as to how I wanted to word my comment. The colouring is gorgeous, and the way you've drawn yourself seems new, it's cute and innocent like for lack of a better word.

Lovely.

Ya it went from 69 days to this, which is pretty awesome.

Well, all buildings over 30 years old here in HK need renovating, and we've had this apartment for over 25 years now, so. Ya. Something did happen. But we need the renovation anyway. Our house is a junkpile.

d00bie In reply to snowunmasked [2005-10-25 04:28:50 +0000 UTC]

Wow, 25 years? For some reason I imagined the place you live to be extremely posh. Some parts of your address threw me off when I first read them and was like, wow..

Do you have plans for yourself and Nico? How long is he staying?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

snowunmasked In reply to d00bie [2005-10-26 01:42:05 +0000 UTC]

rofl. The place is quite nice and WAS quite nice 25 years ago. But not now. I'm gonna make this place totally retro and cool.

He's staying for 23 nights. I have a whole travel itinerary planned out, what to do everyday and stuff. Ya :] 4 days!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

d00bie In reply to snowunmasked [2005-10-27 02:57:24 +0000 UTC]

I can imagine it looking extremely retro considering your taste. From the little movies you've shown me and some of the photos your place doesn't look that bad, infact I thought it was quite nice. I love that wall you have with all those pictures stuck on it. I have a cupboard like that.

Omg. How wierd does that word look. Cupboard.

Ooh lovely. And now it's three days!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

snowunmasked In reply to d00bie [2005-10-28 01:27:40 +0000 UTC]

Nah the place is okay, just a little run-down and LOTS of junk everywhere. I don't really fancy everything being white and brown though. It's so cliche and not-colourful and happy and just so bland.

Ya. Two days now

d00bie In reply to snowunmasked [2005-10-29 01:21:40 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see. I get what you mean, I'd like to paint my room but apparently I can't do drastic changes around the place I'm living even though we bought it. What're your ideas to spruce your place up?

Omg. One day now.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

snowunmasked In reply to d00bie [2005-10-29 02:48:00 +0000 UTC]

I have quite a few ideas :] they're all to do with optical illusions to make the rooms look bigger. Better coordination with the furniture and lights and doorknobs and everything. That kinda stuff. Everything minimalistic and retro and colourful but not too-colourful that it'd hurt the eyes :]

Yes. One day now :]

I cannot paint the house, although I'd really love to. Muriels and stuff on the walls would be really fantastic. However the walls in my house tend to crack really easily :/ so.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

d00bie In reply to snowunmasked [2005-10-31 02:54:52 +0000 UTC]

You must take some photos of when it's all done because it sounds like it'll look fab when you're finished.

I want a house that looks like an Ikea showroom.

Painting would be fun. Murals especially. But only if you have some painting talent, like you. Mine would look like kiddy finger paintings.

Aw. Nico's there now.

HAY NICO AND HIS DONG LOL. :[
