So i recently submitted a piece to the poke-fanclub group and I noticed they had little extra events. It seems like fun / a good way to mabye get drawing ideas etc so I thought id try the draw a pokemon contest ( poke-fanclub.deviantart.com/bl… )then I saw it was woobat and was trying to Think how do I make this interesting...its a ball with a nose!
Then I had this idea!
It was an interesting one to draw. Ive been really waningd to get to the point where my art is good enough to get a little attention. (Actually iwas pretty happy with how my previous Braixen drawing did) I dont expect to just instantly be there but I put a lot of pressure on myself for each drawing to be better than the previous one in the attempt to get to there. But this image...this was a big style shift and it just took the pressure off! I had no expectation that it had to be good, it only had to be good to enough to 'tell' the joke. and because of that I had so much fun drawing this! I spent a lot of time laughing while doing it...laughing at my own joke. so sad ...so sad : (
Actually despite the change of style I actually think this came out pretty well! my only complaint is it doesn't look that much like kirk. I spent so much time studying the chiselled jaw of young Shatner but I couldn't work out what was missing / incorrect...hmm
Anyway I hope this is good for a giggle for those who get the joke : )

Im very glad you enjoyed it ^^ Id posted my previous pokemon one to Fanartsociety but this one felt like a really good fit because obviously to enjoy it most you have to be somewhat into startrek and pokemon. so a multiple topic group seemed like a good fit : )

Try working on more realism in the future. What caught my attention was how good you drew shatner. The fusion of tribles and woobats also caught my attention since you had a little apophenia thrown into the mix.

You know it's interesting. It's not a style I normally do and if I'm honest not really what I'm looking to do ( though I'm sure should I do other parody images based on TV / movie stills I will use this style again) but I have afantasia which means I have to rely on references more than most. Normally reference a lot of different images for different parts of the drawing but here because of the nature of the drawing it was more like a still life. Shatner wad the metaphoric apple on a table. The stress of trying to find references to fit what I wanted to draw was somewhat flipped on its head and I enjoyed trying to draw somehinges very specific ( note to clarify reference means having images on a second monitor not tracing) so mabye it is something I should do more since I enjoyed the process of drawing more than usual

I need references all the time in my work. If you check my recent progress versions of my work, I include the references when it comes to color schemes so it helps the work closer to what the inspirations I used seem more legit.
