Mmm this is awesome. I love the big shiny eyes, and the drippy, decaying look.

hehe, thanks for that - I can see how this might be just your kinda flavour of things, going by your gallery

Oh beejeezus! Neato! I'm sorry that i cant think of anything more constructive to say than that right now but sometimes thats all that needs to be said. Great stuff!

heh, no probs, neato will do just fine - good to know this bit of old rope still turns a few heads, I've just been trawling back through a few bits and pieces and realised that I made this thing about seventeen years ago - and I'm sudenly feeling somewhat decrepit and creaky, ouch.

Huzzah! Gutzez'. Heeee, ; I KNEW you made some, this is great. I don't mean to bother you, but you seem to know what you're doing with the whole sculpture thing. Wondering: can you reccomend some books or sites on how you do those really cool castings and sculptures and such? Thanks.

- heh, thanks for the intestine-appreciation - actually for the most part I\'m pretty much self-taught as far as the sculpting goes, I did take formal education in drawn/painted art, but didn\'t really get into the sculptural side of things until I was in the couple of months of being at college, and even then it was something I did under my own steam rather than taking any actual classes in it - but I have recently started looking around at sculpture sites and whatnot just to see what else might be out there or to pick up a few tips, I\'ll have a dig through my bookmarks and favourites when I get a chance and note you with a few bits and pieces that might be worth a look - I do have a couple of pages on my site that deal with bulding stuff up and moulding/casting to some extent, though they\'re in need of an update - anyway, \'bye for now...

Thanks alot, That\'d be great. There don\'t seem to be any quick practical sculpting classes in my area. Mostly it\'s classical realism and bronze-casting; I don\'t want to learn how to make a copy of the venus de milo that will last for a thousand years. I just wish I could find something that\'ll teach me how to make things like those \"big-atures\" from the Rings movies. I want to do what you do; kinda; maybe not exactly: less beautiful and more nutzoid. But I need to know how to do it. Thanks for writing me back though. very cool of you. I can be pain in the ass sometimes.

- hi again - just a few quick ones to start you off with, I think I've got a few more buried amongst the rest of the crapola in my bookmarks, but these were the first to leap out at me:

the clubhouse - kibuilders' and sculptors' forums, has a fair amount of sculpting turorials and question-answer sections from beginners and experts alike;
conceptart.org - some of what's on offer is a bit trickier to dig up, but there are still some sculpting how-to's worth looking out for;
and the shiflett brothers - a currently very busy coupla guys with a disturbing degree of talent, there's a forum on their site ('sculpting with the bros') that has a lot of input from themselves and from a lot of other active sculptors in the market, as well as links to a lot of other sites of some of those other producers - a great place to waste entire afternoons on...

Marked down!? People wouldn't know amazing artwork if it crawled up their asscrack and ate through their intestines.
Ok, getting foul now.

I have no idea how you do this... About how long, on average, does it take to make these?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snuurg In reply to brighid [2004-04-03 04:54:34 +0000 UTC]

- hmm, depends on what sort of spare time I've got available usually, although that doesn't apply quite the same to this one since it was a college project - seem to remember the class I did this in was spread out over quite a few weeks though so it all took a lot longer than it would've done if I could've got at it more frequently (classroom in another building that wasn't normally accessible to our half of the college, strange little situation): anyway, I suppose I'll typically take a couple of weeks to produce any particular piece, or that's about the reckoning on the timescale anyway - as I said these are generally spare time things so they have to be done in bits here and there whenever the spare time presents itself...

brighid In reply to snuurg [2004-04-07 16:45:54 +0000 UTC]

Spare time... I guess I'm different like that because I'm homeschooled and don't actually do much schooling because I lack motivation in things that don't immediately interest me. So basically I have a LOT of free time. I love your sculptures, and that's why I went on a faving rampage, lol, if a particular piece of work gets me all excited I'll go through the artist's gallery and fave everything I like lots and lots. Congratulations, you rock!
