Description For a fairy tale contest:
[link]

In the girl without hands, she later receives silver hands from her husband. And evil still goes after her..

>.> I don't think I colored very well unfortunately. This was the 3rd coloring. I will post the first one up. The second was transitional and never quite completed, so I have no screenshots of it. o.o

Here's the other one, I thought she looked more like a rich sociolite with the dark hair and bright pink lips lol

I like this one better than the other. The blonde hair/white dress go better with the whole silver hands thing. As always your Oekaki skills are fantastic!! <333

Wow... just wow. I'm not sure what I thought she would look like when I first read the story, but this is just... perfect. I bow before your skill and mastery. (And then try to leech some when you're not looking, hehe)

Wow Thank you!! I think it was hard to imagine what she looked like because they didn't really describe her in the book o.o Only that she was kind of etheral enough they mistook her for a spirit rather than a person.

Thanks The reason I think I was drawn to this story so much is because of Titus. If you watch the version with Anthony Hopkins, it's amazing. They still use Shakespearan language, so some people might get caught up in trying to figure it out. For me it's second nature for some reason >.> Maybe my English teacher ( who looked like hamlet in a hamlet movie) really cinched it for me.
Anyways, the general's daughter Lavina gets raped, her tongue cut out, and her hands cut off. I think it's her father who gives her manaquin hands after she has survived the ordeal.. She was so sad and beautiful. If it hadn't been a fairy tale contest.. I would of drawn lavina with dark hair and pale skin, and wooden hands. I thought of her when I drew the picture, it's mostly seen in those silver hands...

Wow, how disturbing of a story. Sounds like an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. I've never been to fond of Shakespeare because the stories are interesting, the language and length bores me. I'm always sitting there thinking, "Bluntness, Shakespeare! It wouldn't have hurt you to be blunt on occasion!"
I remember seeing that story in "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare," (I think that was it's title) a comedic play that summarized Shakspeare's work.
The picture is lovely and tragic.

LOL Well for the fact she was bleeding enough to die.. >.> The movies is very representational with talking heads and such.. It was meant to be artistic and not exceptionally realistic.
It's not so much that Shakespeare isn't blunt, he's actually very blunt... but he just speaks in a different language.. Think of it like trying to read a play in Chinese or something lol. It's hard to deal with if you don't know the language very well or at all. I got used to the Shakespearan language because of my English teacher who looked like hamlet in that one version of hamlet. He had snowy white hair but his body and face are totally young o.o I think I could of even generated a crush on him ( I don't normally have crushes at all). Anyways we read Shake's plays in class out loud and our teacher would try to explain it and generate motivation of what the characters were feeling. It really helped my understanding and now I love watching movies with the language rather than without, because it seems so much more natural o.o A good teacher can make such a difference I saw a summarized play of Shakespear's work too It was quite funny and interactive with the audience too! IT was completely done by 3 men ( even the women parts LOL). What fun

I typed a reply to this yesterday, but it wouldn't send and I forgot what I said... Shakespeare is boring when read. I enjoy it being acted it, though. Because, you know, they're plays and it's the way they were supposed to be. I hate reading plays for school, they're supposed to be acted out, not read.

So-naa In reply to lethalfairy [2006-06-15 07:23:23 +0000 UTC]

Well the fact is, that most people have the same attitude, that shakespear is boring Or they can't understand it. So reading it is a big step Since not everyone is a professional actor Besides that, not having it memorized makes it hard to just act it spontaneously XD Anyways I loved it. I much rather read it aloud in class than have to muddle through it alone ( though now I read it alone just fine . Plus as I said my teacher was incredible. I'm sure he stoked the fires for me to fall in love with the quirkiness of Shakespear I never understood why people liked him before. But this teacher changed everything.. Sadly I don't even remember the teacher's name XD

Kudos to you for drawing characters from obscure characters. I don't mean to advertise, but have you seen the "No Rest for the Wicked" webcomic? The girl who makes it links together a bunch of old fairytale characters (with a bit of a twist) and she includes The-Girl-with-No-Hands. You might want to give it a glance over. LOL Stop being down on yourself!! Has this only happen in recent times? I remember you used to just draw and doodle and stuff. Now you keep mentioning sucking LOL *hug* I got stuck in one of those bad cycles too o.o Best to just draw and not stop, not think about how well you are doing either. Every time I think about it too much. I get stuck and I create a block of expectation for myself. At that time also, whenever I looked at how good everyone else's art was, I got even more down on myself. Now I just try to do art for the sake of doing it. I may never be as good as others... but my own fears of failure shouldn't stop me from trying or creating art just to enjoy creating it. I love you Erin I've always loved your art and felt born from it. You are my teacher and inspiration. Don't give up on yourself ;_; I'm sad without you!!

Shinkako In reply to So-naa [2006-06-13 19:39:45 +0000 UTC]

Mm, it is pretty recent. ; - ; I haven't even *touched* my tablet in forever. This is mostly due to the fact that I recently got a new HD for my lappy, and can't find the discs for my usual art programs. Which means I'll either have to do without, or try to transfer them from my pc. ; - ;

Which isn't too bad, I guess, but I'd rather have the discs, of course.

Still though, every time I draw (on paper, at least) it just comes out all wrong and sucky and I hate it. ; - ;

I know what you mean about drawing worse on paper ;_; At least for me it works out that way, I thought your paper sketches are consistent with your digital work, which is incredible. My paper work takes a nose dive ! I just can't draw over and over on top of something to refine it so it looks terrible. Plus i can't ink worth a damn lol. My real inking is splotchy and gross I hope you will be able to draw again one of these days !!<3<3

Try a light table type thing. It's basically a little box with one clear side (bigger than a piece of paper, of course), with a light inside. My roommate let me have his old one, and it rocks. You get smooth, sweet lines...

I'd use it more often if I had sketches worth inking. ; - ;

So-naa In reply to Shinkako [2006-06-17 04:27:40 +0000 UTC]

I bet you do All your sketches are worth inking silly!!! <3 I love you! You need to realize that you are so awsome !! ;_; Yah I want a light table, but I can't afford one.. Maybe I could try making one, one of these days >.> Like buy some glass, frost it with spray paint or something to reflect light across the surface, and then a little wooden box o.o But I still need the stuff to make it lol ^^:

Shinkako In reply to So-naa [2006-06-18 00:02:57 +0000 UTC]

Feh, they are not. ; - ; Many of them SUCK. ; - ; In fact, most of them suck. ; - ;

They're probably really easy to make, you can even get little battery powered lights that you can change bulbs in and out of when they're busted. I don't know how much they are, though. I'll take pics of the one roommie gave me, though, so you can get a good idea.

So-naa In reply to Shinkako [2006-06-22 20:01:26 +0000 UTC]

>.> Hm at first I could only thing you were talking about light tables >.>
Like light tables suck or something... Cause all the sketches you said were not worth inking, that you showed me, were worth inking and coloring and showing .
*spanks Erin* Kick that low self esteem Sensei! I need your guidance and inspiration to help me on my path!!! SENSEI ERIN!!!

Yah I just need to have money for it ;_; But that'd be still cool to see yours o.o I wonder if it would really help me? >.> It'd be nice to be able to sell physical commissions besides just digital o.o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shinkako In reply to So-naa [2006-06-23 03:12:49 +0000 UTC]

It's a nice tool. Nothing more. It won't improve anything but your inking, as you dont' have to erase pencil under inked lines, then re-ink due to smudged or lightened lines.

Aaaaaand...my sketches suck. >.>;; <3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

So-naa In reply to Shinkako [2006-06-23 19:57:44 +0000 UTC]

But I found out tools can be so helpful My sketches are so messy, being able to use a light table would really help. Also my favorite method is to use a red pencil to sketch lightly, then a blue one to solidify the details.. but then I can't erase XD So the light table would be too too awsome

NO they don't!! Otherwise you are saying I suck, because I like them so darn much ;_; Do I suck Erin?
