Description Eeee, final got this done. It's huge, so I suggest downloading it.

Here is the pattern that I used. [link] Resize it to however big you want. If you don't want to use this one, then you don't have to. It's fairly easy to make your own with printer paper or loose leaf. Or you can just alter mine to fit your liking.

1. Decide what size you want your finished octopus to be (how long the legs are, size of head, etc.). Your pieces should be made a little bigger than this.

2. Draw a really long U for the legs. Mine were 8.5in X 1.5in (21.6cm X 3.8cm). You can see in the picture what shape I made mine, but it's up to you. You could make them curly and different shapes, too.

3. The shape of the head is kind of a squashed cone. Mine was 6in X 2.75in (15.2cm X 7cm). The bottom of the head in important to know how big the bottom should be.

4. Which is quite simply a circle. The circumference (around the outside) must match up to the head pieces. Multiply the measure of the bottom of the head pieces by 4 (mine was 24in). And oh noes, math time. Grab a calculator, or use the one on your computer. circumference = 3.14Xr^2, so my equation was:

24 = 3.14xr^2
24/3.14 = 3.14/3.14xr^2
7.64 = r^2
√7.64 = √r^2
1.8125 = r

Multiply this number by 2 for the diameter (measure across the circle)

3.625in (9.2cm) = d

Then grab a compass or measure circular item until you find one that's about that wide. Slightly bigger is better than smaller. This step is a bit confusing if you haven't taken algebra within the past couple of years.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions about the pattern making or sewing. This is my first tutorial, and I want to know if there is anything unclear about it. Also, the right side of the fabric is the "pretty side", the one with print or texture on it.
