I think I remember an old cartoon about lion who decided to escape from circus after the tamer's death. This picture reminds me it so much.

Yeah, kinda Tex Avery style if I recall. The overall was sad, but with happy ending.
SPOILER: It started with the last tamer's and lion's run. Then there was some ambulans that took tamer's body, circus workers saying that they have to sell the lion to zoo and lion escaping from his cage in the night. Then we had lion travelling through the city, getting caught at the very end, escaping again and managing to get on the ship, escaping to Africa.
