I am having my own little version of Inktober where I deviate from the prompts and just draw a new car each day.

Perhaps I should have reffered to it as Datsun 211 1000 since there are many later models that also has the name Datsun 1000.
Regardless this is one of not just Datsun's but the Japanese auto industries early steps into the world stage.
It scored a class win in the Mobilgas Trial (Round Australia) in 58 and was exported to Australia and the United States.

This is basically a slightly face-lifted and upgraded version of the 1956 Datsun 113, where the indicators were moved from top fender positions to below the headlights and a new stamped grill was introduced
giving it a Morris Mini like front face. With the famous Mini introduced in 1959 one can argue that it is perhaps more the Mini that ended up looking like the Datsun.
Some people have argued that the design looked a bit awkward but I personally think the rear section looks handsome and considered drawing it from the back.
The engine was also upgraded from 866 cc to 988cc

Another interesting thing about this Datsun 1000 is that they made several body styles, A pickup truck, a station wagon and a sort of crew cab pickup with a very little bed.

When this car was introduced car ownership was still somewhat uncommon in japan but it was slowly catching on, This salary dad has gotten himself a Datsun 211 which his son is taking a lot of interest in.

I planed to draw a little family but alas I ran out of time. It is getting late.
