Synopsis: "Batman faces off against Dracula."

In 2004, there was a cartoon entitled "The Batman". While far from perfect, it did offer an interesting take on the Batman mythos. Today, because Halloween is nearby, I will review the tie in movie, "The Batman Vs Dracula". Let's begin. The movie starts with the Joker breaking out of Arkham Asylum, which the Penguin uses to his advantage. While stealing treasure from the cemetery, he stumbles upon Dracula, and becomes his minion. Dracula then proceeds to turn everyone in the city into vampires for his army. This also includes Bruce's love interest, news reporter Vicky Vale, who he intends to use to resurrect his bride. Now Batman must save everyone before Dracula rises to full power.

This movie is scary. Plain and simple. This is one of those horror movies that's meant to feed on your fear to the point where it feels like your soul is leaving your body. It's pretty grim and dark, and that's the charm of this movie. What really sells it though is Batman's arc.

This movie isn't just about Batman and Dracula's physical battle, but also a battle between their individual ideologies. Both Batman and Dracula managed to both be feared by the mass public. The key difference between them is that Batman may be brooding and no nonsense, but he's ultimately just trying to do what he does best, protect people. Dracula may have a sympathetic motive, but he's clearly a monster and a sociopath who feeds on people's fears and desires in more ways than one. His intelligence helps increase his appeal.

Vicky Vale, despite not having as much screen time, still feels very much part of the action. She connects with Bruce not through his power or money, but because he uses it to help others. That's the reason she sticks with him. He does good for others, and it's heavily implied that she knows his secret, making it that much stronger. This is what helps Batman to move forward. One of the people he's saving is someone who understands what he's like.

As for entertainment, the humor is much darker than the main series to help compliment the darker tone. The blood may be showing up in only a few scenes, but it's impressive how much was put into a family movie, which helps give it a scarier feel. As for how it ends, it sends a strong message on not being afraid to go further in your quest to help others, while also having a positive connotation on knowing what you can and can't do. This movie is just plain exhilarating.

Here is the cast for the movie.

Rino Romano as Bruce Wayne/Batman
