I'll admit I've been following this webcomic for a while now, and I still was taken aback by Ire's sudden death. Yet I love the reaction of it - for me personally Ire was one of the last out of the group I would've thought would've been killed (my bets were either on Rain or Smiles), but because of that fact it made the impact of her death that much harder. Poor Kid, I wonder what he's going to do now that his sister, who has been the constant rock in his life, is now gone

Yeah a number of people said they expected Rain to be the one to die which was strange to me because that would have come out of nowhere. I guess she feels more expendable as a character (or it'd have been a cheap drama trick since there's the pups).
I am sure Kid, being the cam rational person he is, will take this with grace and solemn dignity.

This death makes me think of the walking dead, you have unresolved issues you know your character has, but stuff like this reminds you that sometimes you don't get to resolve them, death can get you at any moment and you never expect when it's coming. How Ire went out was kinda sad tbh, when she looked behind her she already knew she was doomed and her attempts were a vain effort to escape. She knew she was dead, she just didn't want to accept it when there was dying pups at home.
Next time don't hunt with a bad leg guys.

Never saw the TV show but I enjoyed the Telltale games!
She got desperate, and as a result she got dead. Just fell victim to those big puppy eyes, and those big wolfish teeth.

The show was basically a better/slower paced version of the games, more accurate to the comic. I'm honestly a harsh critic with stuff and when it comes to your writing I think it's the best I've seen since most things cop out on killing characters and gloss over everything as well as make characters 1 dimensional. It's why I compared the two because both have been brilliant works of writing so far.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if the little angry pup was named Brave now since it was a suggestion by Ire and follows Bears Bravery which is what Ire had.

TBH since the first time Ire got "caught" by the wolves I always kinda felt she was gonna push it too far and be killed. Poor little spite-poof who will yell obscenities now??

Haha yeah anyone surprised by this must be new here. To be fair, this romp has been a lot more light-hearted than the likes of CC. I mean, cannibalism and prostitution and population-enforcement by disemboweling isn't quite as rampant in this world as it was in poor Pripyat.
Maybe someone can teach the wee ones to curse so they can fill the cursing-void.

Yeah ahah, I read through all the CC while I was hungry for BoB updates, and this has been much tamer by FAR. I mean, given CC was a tournament comic, but still, this could have been just as bloody or more than CC if you'd wanted to take that route. IDK that BoB has much population enforcement needed, I mean the wolves only have 2 girlies, and only one of those is likely to produce some pups, ahah. Kid there's plenty of wolves in the woods who arn't your friends, and some hungry pups! I BELIEVE YOU CAN SOLVE SOME PROBLEMS HERE!
Also I vote for Grizzle to teach the puppers the native tongue of their heritage.

Oh I could have one all out crazy violent, but that wasn't the story I was telling. As much as I love wanton violence it also has to make sense in context, and in this context excess gore would just feel like shock value.
Also I think the disturbing stuff in CC, least for what I did with Speakeasy, was a lot more retroactively horrible. Like a first it's "haha dead babies" and then later it's "oh shit dead babies." Or at least that was the attempt = D

Yeah, I think CC was more disturbing the longer you read through it, like even just the whole why she didn't eat much and stuff was pretty like, dang. But because of all the gore it kinda like hid in there, I mean there was just so much it didn't really mean a lot until you are like wait, hold up, dang. Wow, ok that was actually a terrible situation.
And yeah I agree, it wouldn't have fit in with BoB nearly as much. This is more of a "you made the bed now lay in it" scenario, and excessive gore all over would take away from that and make moments like this page not stand out nearly as much plot wise. I mean, if Kid's pack mates were killed off left and right it'd be more, 'ehhh but really from this little pack he has no one had died yet, I mean Snotty left, and the one pupper died, but that's not the same, not in how it impacts the readers and not how it impacts the characters.
Plus I like reading stuff from writers/comic artist who can have varied plots and story themes, other wise it turns into same story; new faces

I've been following Best Of for several months now, told a bunch of friends about it, have been gushing over it, but only now am I finally gonna comment. Weee!
Gotta say, while my heart is broken at the thought of Ire being dead, how this will effect not just Kid, but Rain and the pups, I'm glad you did it. This is a story about survival, at least from what I've gathered, and in survival, not everyone survives. Even those that were supposedly the fittest of them all. Sometimes bad things just happen to the strongest of us. Sometimes desperate decisions lead to our downfall, no matter the good intentions behind them.
Also I really love a good tragic story. Death and destruction, give it to me.

I always love when people appear out of nowhere = D It's like I've been secretly stalked. Which means it was interesting enough to be stalked in the first place.
Yeah I guess the story currently is a bit survival-focused which puts it more into the "slice of life" category (a category I'm a bit apprehensive to fit into x.x ) But yeah. Ire's been skirting that danger line for too long, and it finally bit her. Very hard.

i really can never see the twists you write into your stories???? like, going back through and reading previous pages, i can see foreshadowing, but it's very very light, so no twists just pop outta the fuckin blue, they all make sense in relation to a chain of actions and reactions, but I can never foresee whatll happen to who b/c you dont follow a generic formulaic plot structure, i love it, i love being surprised

You know, even though I'm fond of Ire's character I have to tip my hat to you (as it were) for this. There are a lot of people out there who would never dream of killing off a main, so kudos to you for having the guts to do that. Really ups the ante, since you've taken away the standard 'oh, they're a main character, they'll be fine' feeling.
That said, I'm sad to see Ire go, and something tells me things are only going to get worse from here...

I feel like I blinked and suddenly your comic had all these updates and horrible things were happening to your characters, so I had to catch up. I'm so glad I did!
I'm SO interested in where the plot is going to go from here. WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN??? Maybe they host a huge funeral and everyone mourns together and through her death they find the love they had for each other deep down.
