Oh, really? I'd imagine that SEGA would just love to agree with you.
And I'm not blind. I've read through your comments, that supplies with more than enough evidence that you, in fact, did not draw this.
Tracing seems to be the appropriate phrase.

I admit this was traced, but I thought that traced pictures were okay... at least I didn't see anything about it in the Submission Policy.

Traced pictures are NOT okay under any circumstances. I'm in a group that bans thieves, and tracing is always a hot topic.

Are you high? Telling people not to steal "your" idea?
You clearly did not draw these. In fact, looking at the full-size image, I'm convinced you didn't even trace them by hand and scan them in, or even trace them digitally.
What it looks like to me is that you took official SEGA artwork, pasted it in MS Paint or a similar program, and used the fill bucket to make everything but the black lines white.
This is blatant art theft. It's not cool. It's not all right. It makes you look like an idiot. And I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldn't approve, either.
I promise you, you'll get more respect for even lousy art that is originally yours than for anything you steal from someone else.
Also, deliberately mis-categorizing your art is, I'm fairly sure, also against DA Terms of Service. "Designs and Graphics -> Vehicular Graphics"? Funniest looking vehicles I've ever seen.

(Quoted from FAQ #8) Copyright Infringement (aka "Art Theft" or "Ripping")
Current deviantART policy defines 'Art Theft' to be any situation where a user takes the original art, photography, or writing of another person (a 'third party' ) and then either misrepresents the original, unaltered work as one of their own creations or includes the work (either altered or unaltered) in a new image.
Generally speaking any submission which is directly built upon the existing work of another artist or photographer can be considered to be a case of art theft. These works may feature screenshots, official artwork or sprites taken from a video game, scans from an art book, artwork found on a website somewhere on the internet or a photograph of a famous person (just to name a few examples), but in every case the 'seed image' is the legal property of another artist. In many cases these 'seed images' are manipulated, colored over, blended with other images, and otherwise digitally worked over but none of this makes the use acceptable or allowed.
These submissions will be removed regardless of whether you have credited or linked back to the original source. Knowing where you βfoundβ the original image or knowing who created it or took the photo is not the same as actually having the legal permission to use it in your submission.
Only valid, legal, stock resources are allowed to be used as part of your deviantART submission. Public Domain imagery and works governed by certain Creative Commons licenses may also be used.

I've been browsing your gallery, and noticed some back and forth arguments over tracing. I'm not going to accuse you of tracing or theft; but I would like to offer some advise. The traced drawings; I think it would be a wise idea to place them in Scraps instead and edit your Artist's Comment section, stating that these were practice drawings, so you can save yourself from victimization by others.
I also wish to offer some help; I used to do Sonic characters in my childhood as well. If you'd like, I can give you some tips on how to draw them...that is if it's ok with you?

Then practice drawing more. It isn't polite in the art world to trace images drawn by someone else.
If you want to become a better artist the best advice I can give is practice every day. Begin reading books about art and making it part of how you think. Practice every day and work on free handing the characters you like. An artist has to constantly work on their skills even when they have mastered a lot of art knowledge. Art is a constant road of improvement. On top of this people can recognize a tracing very easily, they tend to stand out. You will lose respect of other artists because you are essentially lying about your ability and stealing talent. Worse than that you can lose your DA account.
I would suggest removing the traces immediately.
It dosn't matter that you can only draw stick figures now, everyone starts somewhere and imagine how much more satisfying it will be if people like work you actually did yourself. Instant gratification is not a good way to build an art career even if it isn't a professional one.

RoninFox In reply to sonic-fan-126 [2009-09-29 03:29:22 +0000 UTC]
In an art community such as deviantART, it's actually better to have bad-looking art that you really drew, than to have great-looking art that you traced from someone else. Originality, honesty, and actual effort are respected more than having a beautiful picture. If you keep posting only tracings, you'll never be capable of drawing your own original work-- and you'll get very disliked. It's much, much worse to be known as a tracer than to be known as an unskilled artist. Because an unskilled artist is at least making a genuine effort to improve. Even people who are bad at drawing DO get better if the KEEP on drawing. The best and fastest way to get better at drawing is to actually draw.
The worst part is that you have a signature which proclaims you as a Christian. Does being a Christian make it okay for you to trace someone else's work and effort, and claim it as your own? Claiming a tracing as your work is the equivalent of claiming that the real artist DIDN'T draw it. It's absolute disrespect. It's also LYING. Artists put their time, care and effort into making their work. To trace their work and get credit for it is the equivalent of spitting in the artists' faces. You're making Christians look bad.

mnstrfscks In reply to sonic-fan-126 [2009-04-07 21:41:40 +0000 UTC]
The only thing I can really say to this is practice. Even though I said that and I even thoguh I was pretty nice about it.
Every artists works hard for what they do. And it feels better making something 100% yours instead of passing others work off as your own.
You are right it's not your fault you haven't mastered every technique in art, and there is nothing wrong with not being a great master as soon as you put pencil to paper, every great artists started as a 'crappy artist'. But you can turn that around by taking charge of your ability and building upon a strong foundation, technique and habit to become a better artist.
It is your fault for not trying to improve your skill and taking the easy route to trace images instead.
You are the only one who has the power to improve yourself. It take a lot of work ( I keep saying this because becoming good at something is never easy) but if you want it, you will get it done and the satisfaction from it will be amazing.
In the end you get to choose though, do you want to work hard on your art or have people call you out for tracing?

"it's not my fault that I draw crappy stuff. I just do."
You draw crappy stuff because you haven't done anything about it. That's like being caught in a mudslide, not bothering to wash off the mud, and saying, "It's not my fault I'm dirty. I just am." No matter how muddy you are, you CAN get clean if you just spend extra time washing it off. It's the same with drawing. No matter how bad your art looks, you CAN improve if you draw frequently enough. And I put emphasis on "frequently".
Try this method: Find an image, and trace it-- SEVERAL times. Trace it at least 30 times. After the 30th tracing, your hand will start to automatically remember the anatomy and placement of things-- it will feel like your hand has a brain of its own. Now start copying the image, without tracing it, at least 30 times. Have the image next to you, so you can easily look at it whenever you need to. Copy it 50 or more times if you really want to get great results. You'll find that copying will become easy, because your hand's "brain" will remember the important details. Finally, draw the image from your memory, without copying. You'll be amazed at what you produce. Even though you might not remember all the details of the image, your hand will automatically fill them in for you. Keep on doing this-- it will literally train your hand to draw.

then just post your 'crappy stuff' and practice 'til you get better, it's not the original artist's fault you 'draw crappy' and they don't deserve to get their art stolen so you can feel better.
