A ludicrous and fallible theory that the scholarly Twilight Sparkle could easily see through; she's too smart to even ask such a stupid question. The most obvious inconsistency in that theory is that Barney and Spike are two entirely different species. Spike is an infant dragon, and Barney is a cherub-esque mutation of what's supposed to be a dinosaur. Clearly, he's a defective among his species. Why oh WHY was he the only one of his kind to survive extinction?! My guess is that he was secretly the craft of creationists who wanted people to dislike the idea of dinosaurs so much, they'd automatically believe that Garden of Eden bullshit without any second thoughts. Those conniving bastards...
