Dr. James Andrew Gray in the Paddington Reservoir, Sydney, Australia - A single exposure combining infrared and visible Light
f/3.5, ISO50, 30mm, 1/500, 8 degrees tilt
Arsat 30mm f/3.5 medium-format fisheye mounted on an ARAX Pentacon Six thit-shift adapter
Shot with a full-spectrum-modified Canon 5D mark II

The selective focusing is a result of the tilt-shift adapter and was not added in post-processing. The colors of the plants are due to the infrared contribution and were not added in post-processing.

this is lovely <3 i just started working with a cambo viewfinder in my classes, which had me considering adding a tilt shift to my wish list... and seeing this... i think i need to add it to my future plans.

also, the infrared is lovely and intriguin... (heading over to the group to check that out too...)

Thank you Persephone! Yes, these adapters are a lot of fun, and you can get some for incredibly cheap if you use mirrorless (especially APS-C). If you have a dSLR you'll need to use medium-format lenses with a slightly more expensive adapter, but alltogether this type of adaptation comes in cheaper than buying a dedicated modern tilt-shift! Feel free to send any questions you have my way!

Oh nice!

I just sent my 5D MkII to a specialist who is transforming it into an infrared camera.

But I went for a defined version(670 nm filter), not a full spec. camera, because I really don't want to change filters all day.

I will certainly check out your infrared group!

That's a great wavelength to work with. Very similar to the standard 720nm, but just a little more colorful. You can always add 720, 850, 950, or 100nm filters if you want a different feeling.

Please.do, r72 is always looking for more contributors, and is a great community resource for any technical questions you have!

Yes, I noticed that I can always decrease the range with a 720 or 820 etc. filter later on.

The only one I am missing out was the 520 'fake colour' wavelength.

On the other hand I think I can modify the 670nm pictures enough to go both ways (into bw or into 'fake colours')

I wanted to see something through my viewfinder, because it is not digital. I don't want to use life view too much.

I read that a digital viewfinder camera must be amazing for IR, but since I only use canon lenses, I think there are no possibilities, yet.

With a little color work you can still get some decent false color work out of 670nm, don't worry!

Yes, I'm very envious of those with converted mirrorless cameras. At the moment I use an LCD magnifier and do all my composition and focusing using LiveView for infrared, full-spectrum, and ultraviolet photography. If you ever want to go mirrorless, the Canon->Sony adapters preserve autofocus quite well in fact.

Regardless, so careful in lens selection, as infrared "hotspots" can ruin a good photo!

Maybe in a view years there are better options for IR cameras!

I checked an online list about hotspots, according to that list my lenses are quite good for IR: 17-40 4.0 L,   70-200 4.0 L,  100 2,8 macro L.
If you are interested, the list is here: decatec.de/objektive-und-kamer…

It's German, but I think you manage to understand

Yes, that list is generally accurate - there are a few such compilations around the internet. The 17-40/4.0 is my second-most commonly used behind the phenomenal Samyang 14/2.8

cannot help but comment: yes, using mirrorless with full spectrum/infrared is wonderful! i use a full spectrum modified Nikon 1 V2 with various filters 590 and 720. seeing the effect (wysiwyg) in the viewfinder is amazing!! check out my port for some examples for canon users, one of the smaller mirrorless (M) models could be a relatively low cost option. cheers, rob

cool shot, steve! beautiful portrait with added exotic parameters: visible/infrared, sharp/outoffocus. the lens spec is impressive cheers, rob

Thanks Rob! Here's the beastly lens here. The front element is absolutely massive, and built like the Soviet tanks of it's era. It gives a rare combination of selective focus, wide angle, and field curvature without the standard rectilinear overcorrection

thanks for showing! yes, the construction is impressive. however, we see more and more lenses with big and bulging front elements these days. i do not understand how people schlepp them around, say on a long hike into the countryside, but some do

Here's some size context Canon 15/2.8 fisheye, Samyang 14/2.8 full-frame, Arsat 30/3.5 medium-format fisheye, Samyang 12/2.0 APS-C, Canon 16-35/2.8

The Ultimate Truth!!! (A kind of ) I must join in and tell (write) you that that Arsat "monsta" is a treasure as I see, Gollum would offer you his Ring to get this Preciouss. Great job, great combo, and very invetive gearing! Take my bow, sir!

I was very lucky to get it for extremely cheap when an eBay seller mistook fungus inside the lens for scratches. A little disassembly, hydrogen peroxide, and methylated spirits, and it was as good as new! Thank you kindly!
