Description Open (pro) saddle bronc at Taupo rodeo.

This is taken at the 2010 Taupo rodeo in New Zealand. I compete in rodeo myself and when not riding love to take photos. It is my sport and passion I do not appreciate rude and disrespectful comments. I don’t want to know what may go on at some rodeos but not ever rodeo is like what you see on youtube. Those are usually the very few none professionally run ones over the world. This rodeo and all other in New Zealand are run by the NZRCA (new Zealand rodeo cowboys association) they are all professionally run with strict rules and regulations as well as an animal welfare code and officers there on site as well as many vets. Before you say anything against my photos I advise you read up the new Zealand animal welfare code for rodeos and the NZRCA rule book so you know what really goes on. Thank you for your time in reading this if I can see that you have been respectful to me and read this comment then I will be respectful to you and read yours. Once again thank you for reading.

You're welcome.
All your Rodeo shots are really good and I find it very intresting how much rules exist in professional rodeo sport.I know lots of videos on youtube about how cruel all horse sports are doesn't matter if its rodeo, show jumping, dressage, cross or racing and I know that they only show those people who act against the rules. I can imagine that there are lots of people who say that all those sports are against the nature of a horse and that the horses are always mistreated, but a really good and professional rider will never act against the rules doesn't matter wich horse sport he or she made.So all those selfcalled animal rights defenders shall shut up if they knew nothing about real rodeo sport.
Before I saw your rodeo shot I didn't even know that there exist also rodeos in Newzeeland. I only kown them from America and Australia. I was very surprised and find it fascinating. Just one question.I knew that in America there are also children rodeo competions with riding on a bucking sheep or something like that. Does that also exist in Newzeeland?

Wow thanks for the big coment! Yeah there are so many rules and regulations that go into pro rodeo to make everything as nice for the animals as posible if only people looked into that... and shut down non pro events where the rules are not regulated. I dont like the videos and such on youtube but a large amount are non pro events and are all mainly in America as in Australia and New Zealand only the rodeo association can host them. So its all a bit thing that seems to be a very he said she said situation without much fact.

For children compedators under 40kg they ride calves, not little tiny ones larger weener claves there is a weight the claves must be but I cant remember what it is. Once over 40kg the children have to ride steers.

Thanks for the information about children rodeo so no sheep but calves. It's very intresting.

I think people should inform themselves a bit better about the professional sport before they post such things on youtube and say it's all just cruel doesn't matter if it's rodeo or another horse sport.I find it really good that you give people the possibility to be informed about what real rodeo sport means.

Couldn't help but read into your posts. America has children's events were young kids ride sheep. Dunno if you'd already looked into it or not. In some places here, they do ride calves or steers. But mostly young rams.

Haha yeah used to do silly sheep runs for the local kids they would hope on (again weight restriction) and hold on and see who could stay on the longest but they stopped that as it was thought to be to stressful for the sheep.

Yeah I mean all sport involving animals can be dangerous and can go wrong. Hell sports without animals go wrong. As long as all steps to be kind and not cruel are taken if acadents happen they are just that acadents. (would help though if the non pro sports where cruelty does take place were to be shut down for good)
