Commission for of her OC AzariaHere I took the chance to try out a more sci-fi oriented setting and practice rain a bit as well (its really hard to make it look decent)
If you are curious about her eyes, Ill just copy the original description I was given:
"The most prominent feature about Azaria is her eyes. Her right eye is a human blue, while her left eye is an orange dragon's eye. The is because of her magic as the chosen "Dragon Tongue" - the one human who can communicate the mythical beasts (in my story they lost their ability to speak the human language). She actually hasn't completely fully harnessed her power yet, as the fully fledged Dragon Tongue has both eyes, and can easily switch between human eyes and dragon eyes"
So yeah, after this there will probably be a couple full body drawings coming up... Ive been hesitant to do those but lets see how they turn out

I love the touch of color in this picture! The contrast between the eyes is magnificent, sending the idea of fire and ice. The cat-like pupil appears as a hidden monster/fire/revenge/hell etc oppositing the other one, representing calm/peace/humanity/heaven. It's also astonishing how, in the background, the side with the blue eye shows a straight, pale, lightning, while the other one shows a wilder one.

It seems that her left and right eyes are focusing on different subjects?! (Test it by covering one half of her face with your palm and you;ll see what I emant). I like the dragon eye more.

Yeah, its because of her eyes being different... I had a lot of trouble making them look good as it is
The reason that is happening is because on the human eye, the pupil is only on the upward part of the eye, leaving the empty blue iris below, which gives off the vibe that eye is looking upwards, while on the dragon eye, the pupil covers the whole eye from top to bottom, so it looks like that eye is looking at something lower than the other one (even if its just looking straight)
Really hard to get something consistent because of this, so Im pretty happy with the result

Impressive pic, the coloring is really amazing, the amount of dark tones and the lighting effects are truly amazing!!!! But I just have one general critic for you... every picture I've seen from you features a girl with the same expression in her face, they look like "neutral", maybe it's jut me but I think you should try to experiment with some other facial expressions.
BUT AGAIN, this pic is amazing and, in this case, the expression in the girl's face looks great with the dark environment.

I get that once in a while but there is no way for me to explain why I do it like this... Go look at artists like Agnes-Cecile or anyone else who is pro at portraits, they always draw the same expression for the same reason as me... (Im not comparing myself to her btw, shes years ahead of me lol)
When it comes to expressions it has to be subtle because thats the only way to get an air of elegance, which is my main focus on the drawings... I will never draw a girl straight crying or laughing, because it doesnt fit my "idea" in art...
Even then, the feel each character has is completely different... compare my last 3 drawings, how can you say they have the same expression?
Averia gives a huge charming/confident vibe, like shes really at the top of her game
Coral has a much more reserved look, and a bit of pride that comes from a person with high social status, but shes also very pure/honest
Azaria here is much more "in your face", with an agressive tone, the kind of "take no shit" girl
Cant you see this just from looking at the pics? If you cant there is nothing I can do, because for me (and for the people who commissioned them) its really obvious

I understand that every pic is different and each one transmits a different feeling, that thing about the expressions was just something that took my attention... I'm the kind of person who likes to see the emotions exaggerated, I don't know much about elegance, so I just did't get it.
Don't get mad about my comment, I didn't meant to say that all your pics look like the same, it was just an opinion based on what I like or don't like, and that's not a really solid critic.

I actually had a couple more stuff before, sort of flying spaceships with "spotlights" etc, but felt it was too much, since its all about the character, not the background

I love the little freckles you gave her.....
Although....if her LEFT eye is blue, and her RIGHT eye is orange...from this perspective looking straight at the picture, the eye that the viewer sees on the RIGHT is the orange one, and the eye that the viewer sees on the LEFT is the blue one....so from HER view, it makes her left eye orange and her right eye blue...
If that made any sense whatsoever....

Her chin/ jawline is wayyy too small. I know I probably sound like a total hater here, but its really bugging me how she has zero room for an oral cavity (aka, ANY semblence of a proper mouth). Especially since the top half of the face is SO round. This sounds really mean but it just reminds me of a cartoon alien or somthing. Sorry. And why are almost all of your characters squinting? You talk alot about realism and how you NEVER use strong emotional expressions cause its 'subtle' or whatever (seriously, never??) but man, do people so not have eyes like that all the time. I know this is just how you stylize things, so I usually just ignore these things and move on but i feel like iv'e maybe seen one too many today -_-

The squinting eyes thing just made me laugh though... According to that nearly every asian has squinting eyes LOL (I suggest looking at my Coral drawing, if you prefer them wide open)

Yeah, again, i dont wanna sound like a hater but asians, even the ones with really small eyes, still hav round eyes. I don't even mean the same squinting as the way a live action person squints. I'm looking at an asian right now and his eyes aren't like sideways squash blossoms. uhhh...gif.

Oh what you mean is just wide eyes in general? Yeah, I do that... LOL its obviously a style thing though, so why the problem? Thats like complaining about standard anime characters having super tall eyes with huge pupils
I hate always beating the dead horse but, this isnt realism (at this point I always redirect people to my Amanda Seyfried portrait but youve probably seen it already, lol)... Its a lot more fun when everyone has their own way of drawing faces and you can identify the artist right away just by looking at the thumbnail
Well, obviously lots of people like my style so, sorry it bothers you, but I wont be changing anything for now... My style is always evolving though so who knows, maybe in 6 months Ill be doing something else and youll like it
