Description The King of Solar and the Queen of Luna - what better time for them to dance than at dusk?

My 4th (and final) entry for this contest by dawn-refia ! It took a while to finish, but in the end, I think it was worth it. (Not my OCs - credit to 96-Adopts  for character designs and Scarlett-Knight  for the king's outfit)

Hope you like it!

Holy smokes! This is beautiful!

You can feel the romantic tension in the atmosphere. The king and queen, dancing as the sun sets into the beautiful orange sky, ready for the moon to rise amongst the stars.

This is awesome. I hope it does good in the contest, mostly because it should and probably will.

Thank you so much!!! Wow, your vision of the moon rising with the stars sounds beautiful - great inspiration for a new drawing

I look forward to seeing how that inspiration takes form.

Good luck. Though with your skills, I doubt you'll need luck.

Hi from
I love the color scheme for this. It's bold and stunning, but the hues of orange and teal range enough as to not make it look too monochromatic. The texture in the bushes is very painterly, and I love the scattered glitter in the dress, how little bits of it sparkle past the gown. The framing is very good, having the dark bushes and dark sky draw your eye to the character with the bright sun in the middle.
I can tell you used a reference, but the pose is still a little stiff. A way to get more of the motion of a pose is to draw a line of motion  images.search.yahoo.com/search… a line showing the way the pose moves and where the weight is focused. The way that their heads are angled seems stiff, and their expressions look like they know they're posing for a picture rather than they're really enjoying the moment. Try pushing the expressions more  images.search.yahoo.com/search… bigger smiles, wider eyes. Or another way to show pleasure is to have the characters close their eyes with big smiles. Upturned eyelids show excitement, whereas downturned eyelids show contentment.
I see that under the woman you gave her shadow under her feet to show she's touching the ground. Along with the bigger shadow under her dress I would also add smaller shadows directly under her feet. This is especially needed on the other character where it doesn't look like his feet at really touching the ground because of the lighting.
I also think coloring the lineart would have helped make the characters look more at home in the environment. Because whereas where the sun touches them, the lineart is lightened and blurred, and the lineart on the boot of the man looks jarring with that black lineart against the painterly background.
As for the upper part of the sky, it looks a little splotchy and less like clouds. The clouds look more convincing towards the sunset because they look more intentional. It also looks really good how the parts of the bushes that are touched by the sun have a glow to them. Overall this is a pretty strong piece, there's just a few things that have room for improvement.

Thank you!! The bushes and sun were a bit of a last-minute addition, so I'm glad they turned out well. Ooh, I've never really done lines of action - they look like they'd really help. I'll definitely try them in the future. I agree, their expressions don't look that genuine. Thank you for the references - these are incredibly helpful! I've never practiced drawing expressions - making one of my own expression sheets would probably help a lot. Yeah, they do both look a bit floating without the proper shadows. Changing the lineart colour would definitely help - they do look a bit cut-and-paste, which wasn't was I was going for  I didn't pay much attention to the top of the sunset after a while (too focused on the bushes, I guess), so I completely missed that they're splotchy. Thank you for pointing that out!

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to review my work! I really appreciate all your advice, and I'm glad you like the piece!

It's still really impressive, and there's lots of good parts in this.
I like doing expression sheets, for me they/'re fun.

hi i'm from

this is a stunning piece! I love the background a lot, it sets a really nice atmosphere <33 the pose is a little stiff but at the same time dynamic. it shows a lot of emotions like they're just focused on each other, which is really cute!
the colours are really nice, i like how you used both cold and warm colours. it makes the piece more interesting.
one thing I would recommend is adding shading under their feet. it looks a bit like they're floating without the shading. that leads me to the actual shading: it's used properly, which is good! there's no pillow shading or any weird highlights <33
the character design is really interesting. the girls dress is really nice (id definitely want a prom dress like that haha!) while the man's design looks really optimistic, something I'd associate with the sun!
also, I'd recommend adding a less-blended divider between the sea and the ground. if it wouldn't be for the plants(?) at the sides, it'd look like they're connected
also I love how they represent the sun and moon, dancing at the dusk. it's a really smart metaphor/pun!
in general, the drawing is really pretty, and there are not many mistakes!! i hope this helped.

Thank you so much!! This is maybe the 2nd time I've finished a full-body, and my first couple drawing, so I can't say I'm surprised the pose is kind of stiff  They're husband and wife, so I'd really hope they'd be focused on each other while dancing, haha. It would be rather sad if they weren't

Yeah, they do look a little... not connected to the ground. Shading under the feet is a great idea, thank you! I'm not familiar with pillow shading, but I'm going to assume I'm not supposed to do it.

The background really didn't come out the way I wanted - it's supposed to be a sunset (I used www.pexels.com/photo/nature-sk… >this" as reference) and they're standing on a dirt path (the orange thingy down the middle) lined with plants (the dark stuff). The horizontal lines in the sky could definitely make it look like an ocean, my bad! I hope that clears up what everything's supposed to be!

Again, thank you for taking the time to review my work - your comment was super helpful and really appreciated!! ❤

for a 2nd time, it's really good!

here's a good explanation what pillow shading is pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_pos… (unfortunately I'm one of the people who does this haha)

oh! the sky is really pretty, I just somehow thought it was an ocean, sorry^^

I'm glad you've found my comment helpful^^

Thanks! Though I honestly chose this bg because I was lazy - I started with a ballroom only to realize I can't draw tiles or chandeliers or windows or pillars or anything that exists in a ballroom. Plain old skies are so much easier
