Description This is a contest prize for of 's black wolf character Shadowstar. He's an all black male wolf with a white paw, inner ear and a small patch on his forehead. He also has blue eyes, which you cannot see here. I hope you like him Tsuki.

She wanted him older and howling to the moon. Well, the moon would look kinda funny right in front of his nose, so I hope that it is okay where it is.

Tips on anything are welcome.

I picked a more interesting howling pose and I think it ended up biting me in the butt Please let me know what you think of it.

This is true. There are a few in Mexico, but the lobos are being wiped out fast

But you have some awesome animals in S. America! I mean come on ^.^ You have the Amazon! That is so cool. I wish we had that many trees.

Oooh. Very well drawn!

Superb shading. Best you've done yet, I think. The moon is awesome. The detail and contours are great, although saying that I think the head is lacking somewhat. Also, I feel like the back leg looks like it's twisted the wrong way. BUt all in all, this is a greta job!

The wolf's rear-left leg. It's looks like it's ninety degrees to the front legs.

That's how i feel too, but if you look at the ref, does it look that way on there to you? cause I tried my darndest to mimic it >.<

...Oh, geez. No, the drawing is very close to the ref. But even in the ref pick the leg looks twisted. The knee is pointing ocmpletely forward and below the ankle is completely to the right...ugh, it makes my knee ache just looking at it.

I think I have seriously underestimated the flexibility of canine joints. Your drawing matches the ref really well. But still, looking at it for me, it just doesn't look right in either case. I don't know anymore...

I think I figured it out. But I wanted to wait until you looked at it. His body is curved into a u shape with his front paws facing towards the camera. Whereas his back end is bend to the left. Almost like he was standing facing to the right (parallel to the camera), kept his backend in place and turned his frontend towards the camera.

Does that make sense? maybe I'll try it with my dog at home.

I thought about that. But still, the rest of the body looks to be in line. I guess it could be a very acute curve, but I don't think it's very usual or natural to curl the body that much when standing in one place.

The curved body, though, is probably why it looks like that. It still makes my knee ache

Ugh, most annoying thing ever ... I was on DA at work (because when no one's coming in and I have down time, the girl I work with and I buy internet cards and play on my computer) when I saw this, then began my comment ... and all of a sudden the card timed out and internet died on me right in the MIDDLE of my comment. D:< Rawr. Ah well, enough complaining. XD

I LOVE IT!!! Ironically I drew a wolf in almost this same pose for an art project one time. I compliment your taste in references. XD I love that you tried something a little different here, but the realistic touch is really beautiful. ^^ Lovely moon-I'm impressed with the detail you put in it instead of just drawing a circle in the sky like some would do. :3 You've gotten the shadows down very nicely, and good anatomy as well. One thing I have to offer is that while the shading is good here, try to always follow the flow of the fur to make it look ... well, furrier~ >w< You did that pretty well here, but part of the back looks a bit like you tried to crosshatch. It's probably best to stick to one or the other. But he looks so beaaauuuuuutifullll~ Thank you so much for drawing this for me!

Oh, Shadowstar isn't my character, he belongs to ~Unknowncreation and was meant to be a gift for him. Now I can fly over to his page and shove the link at him so he can look at the loveliness.

Yeah, I accidently did the crosshatching without thinking and then I couldn't get it to go away So, that was no fun, but I'll def keep that in mind next time ^.^
