Oops! I could have sworn I had logged out of the rockhounds profile and logged back in to my normal page before posting that last comment..... weird! Too many hours in front of the computer I guess?

I love the composition of this photo!
To be honest I'm more impressed with your beautiful hands than anything else (although I wouldn't mind snagging those tourmaline!)...... HOW do you have such clean hands if you make jewelry and work with rocks!? You must have an in-house manicurist? I've been feverishly scrubbing my nails for months and I never get the stains out):

Nice photo! How do you keep you nails so pretty!? I solder, pierce and polish everyday... I used to have such pretty nails but not anymore):

As the kyanite junkie meekly raises her hand...
Well, we'd already ruled out blue sapphire, it was a little bright for blue spinel (possible, but bright), it wasn't quite the right color for blue fluorite or apatite (again, close, but not greenish enough), and if you had a sapphirine, benitoite or lazulite that large and transparent, I'd have to kill you for it, and there are probably some museums around that would do the same. (Lovely stuff to be certain, but not worth selling my house and moving into my parents' basement for.)
Which left kyanite. At least other people are starting to realize that kyanite exists and is fun stuff, though; when I went looking for kyanite a few years back, I got all sorts of strange looks. And it certainly didn't come in that electric royal blue when you did find it...

Apparently they've even found some pink benitoite recently... I'm not much of a pink person, but just the concept!
Now, what I'd like is some taaffeite. It's rare, very durable (read: can be used as a ring stone without cringeing) and purple. Gets mistaken for spinel a lot. Yeah, musgravite is rarer, but I'm not pressing my luck.

Yummy...
Is this fluorite? this small blue transparent ?
I love fluorites, pity they are too soft/fragile

No fluorite. I agree, I had to quit buying them because they just break too easily.

I know i wouldn't be able to get them right....so i won't try to guess at all, but i'd say this is a fantastic picture, the composition and lighting is great.

There was another picture that had a better composition in my opinion, but it didn't fit on my homepage as well.

Iolite, labradorite, tourmalines, hmmm, very hard to tell from the photo........ black opals, looks like the carved polished one is a spessartine garnet, and then what I hope is a smoky quartz, mmmm turqouise as was mentioned--- oh c'mon, can we have another view --- there's a glare on some of the stones. The flat one near the back of your hand looks like bloodstone almost, but it could be a fancy jasper or neithe of those things! And I can't tell about the bright blue one buried in the middle. I am close though, right?

No iolite, everything else is right except the last bit; I'll give you a hint. It's rare.

Nails of steel and doom come from having too much calcium in my body. It also causes me to have kidney stones, so there's the downside.

It is when your body breaks it down correctly. At least I'll never have to worry about osteoperosis.
