An elk calf I found today. I sat down next to him without disrupting him and watched him. I was camoed out as I normally am in the woods and eventually mama came around. By the time she came around it was too dark for my camera to take good pictures without a tripod.Related content

It was pretty crazy to just find him out there. I had been meaning to set up a camp actually when I found him and just ended up completely fascinated with him. Since I am studying wildlife biology I couldn't pass up the opertunity to observe him and see how Mama acted when she came back.

Wow, how long did you camp out with the calf? I wonder if the mother even noticed you as well?

It was all of about 7 hours or so I did some sketches of him while I was there and just in general lay there watching him. After a little while he would lift up his head and look at me. I mewed at him like a cow elk and he would perk up his ears at me.
