Every painting, in my opinion, is better with blood.
I won't lie. It was inspired by the song "Henry Lee" by Nick Cave and several other people. It means a lot to me. I won't bother to insert the lyrics or anything, you can look it all up if you are curious. This is what I imagined the first times I heard it; I know nothing about the story's background, I'd rather it STAYS this way, and I can imagine the characters in any damn way I want. That's it. There is nothing I can say about this that the song can't. All you need to know is that it was made with love. Oh, and the penknife murder version did not feel like something suitable for drawing, so I thought it might be more dramatic and elegant of the lady to try to suffocate (or decapitate - whichever happens first) poor little Henry with some barbed wire. Which is something I draw for the first time, just so you know why it doesn't look like the real thing.
Pen and watercolor, as usual. I was inspired. Very inspired.
P. S. Damn you, Nick. Damn you. Your music just spared me 30 years of therapy. Lots of counselors will be hungry because or you

I really love this! You captured the theatrical feel that really floods this song (and the whole record for that matter)
It's colurful and dark (in the heavy sort of way), something I rarely see working, but it really does here

I was randomly looking "henry lee" stuff arround and when your pic appeared I almost fainted...!
it catches the feeling of the song completely, I can almost hear the girl satying that "lalalala lalalalali" to his ear, it's soooo beautiful and well made ;A;
And I fell in love with his face...!
Also, for being your first time I think that barbed wire looks pretty cool :3 Of course the blood makes everything better too, as you said xD I couldn't agree more with you!

I'm so very sorry it took me so long to reply... To tell you the truth, I nearly fainted myself when I read your comment... I'm sincerely honored. I can tell you wrote what you wrote with feeling, and that truly means the world to me. My inspiration came from the song itself, that was what I envisioned when I first heard it... and then, well, I drew it...
As for the barbed wire, it is a concept in itself, I must say... and,once again, I'm speechless. Thank you so much for the amazing comment!

And yeah... you can be proud of yourself; even when it doesn't picture at all the song (the knife and the well) it's obvious it was made about it... I don't know, the feeling is there, and because of that I can say it's the best drawing about henry lee's song I've seen... ;w; actually I was a long time looking at it, because I loooooved their expressions...

This image make me thing to the concept of tragedy. He stays resigned to his bloody destiny, she is killing him with her eyes full of tears, making the very last thing she wants to do.

This was truly a great description to the scene in the song. I couldn't have said it better myself. And, indeed, the song is a beautiful rendering of the beauty in such a tragedy. Thank you. I was a bit stressed when I began this picture, because I knew it had to look and feel powerful, and I feared I'd screw it up... but anyway, I am glad you liked the final result. And Henry, he has accepted his fate, I'd say. And I guess I draw people with various mouth creases way too often. I have a messed up beauty standard, I recently realized that

messed up?...I'd rather say you have your own beauty standard, that's all. It's idiosynchracies that i find myself attracted to, not how well someones face fits into Fibonnci's golden ratio, and i suspect you are much the same...
But yes, he does look resigned, with that slightly bitter downwards twist of the lip.
I completley forgot to say, too, that i quite the overall composition in this picture, too.

As a matter of fact, now that you mention it, that is exactly what I tend to be attracted to. Sometimes I simply fall for one's features because they speak to me about a specific side of one's personality. No, not sometimes - always, and I've even discovered patterns... Now my entire family jokes with me about my fascination with people generally accepted as ugly
