George Lucas planned Jar-Jar Binks.
Just because someone came up with something great doesn't mean all their ideas are good ones.

Pyrrha deserved so much better than to be killed like that, just to set the tone of the story, and her memory deserved more than a timeskip after her death skipping over the reactions of her teammates.

It was in MANY ways, a very bad writing decision (unless they're playing the long game and Pyrrha's coming back).Β Quote all the Achilles/coming-of-age/allegory/symbolism crap you want, I've looked FAR deeper into the writing mechanics.Β Yes, they made us feel.Β However, they didn't earn any of it.Β If you're going to rip off Krillin's death on Namek, at least make goddamned sure the right fucking person's getting the power-up off of their corpse....

NickRoberts10 In reply to AraelIsrafel [2017-02-14 14:18:38 +0000 UTC]
I agree with you, there. Simply watching Volume 4 made my heart beat, as if I were getting depressed, much akin to the fact of what happened to Pyrrha.

The whole comparison between Krillin and Pyrrha is just a sample of the ammunition I can bring to this debate.Β Check my journals for more.Β That one's explained in much greater detail.

Destiny is a strange thing...
It can lead you to greatness...
Or down a path of darkness...
You can follow it, or make your own...
But when you see one path end....
You see another just begin

pyrrha: jaune?
jaune: hmm?
pyrrha: do you believe in destiny?
jaune: hmm?
23 years later.
Yin (yangs son)...my mom said her friend jaune...never really gave a straight answer *huff* *huff*, when his team mate pyrrha said...*huff* *huff*..."do you believe in destiny?"
enemy: so? your weak. you not an arc, you lack you moms intensive strength, your not a silver eyed worrier...
Yin: GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr
enemy: face it...you're just a weak, normal human with no special power, no semblance...NOTHING...
10 years ago when Yin was 6
Yin: hey mom?
Yang: yeah buddy?
Yin: I got some question.
Yang: *giggles and puts Yin on her lap*, what you got on your mind buddy?
Yin: how did you get a robot arm?
Yang:...mom got into an accident, which was sort of her fault but not really, I dunno...anymore?
Yin: why did you call me Yin?
Yang: cause your dad liked my name, I wanted to name you something with a Y, and we thought you looked like me, so we called you Yin "giggles".
Yin:...you told me something once...but I don't know if you believe in it or not?
Yang: hmmmm (I'm not sure if I do or don't believe in destiny? hmmm).
Yin: do you believe in destiny?
Yang: *chuckles* you know buddy...
back to the present
Yin: DESTINY'S A BUNCH OF CRAP!!!
enemy: *GASP* WHAT?
Yin: you heard me. it doesn't matter where you come from *image of summer holding babyΒ yang*, it doesn't matter who your related to *image of 7 year old ruby and qrow*, and it doesn't matter *image of past jaune and future jaune*, WHAT YOU USED TO BE, BECAUSE YOU CAN CHANGE WHO YOU ARE.
enemy: WHAT? YOUR INSANE!
Yin: no. YOU ARE! IM YIN XIOLONG. AND IM GOING TO CHANGE WHO I AM! IM GONNA BEAT YOU, IM GOING TO SAVE THIS WORLD LIKE MY MOM, AUNT AND THEIR FRIENDS DID, AND IM GOING GET STRONGER!!!
enemy: your fate is, SEALED!!!
Yin: THEN I'LL JUST AHVE TO BRAKE IT!
enemy: rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH
Yin: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH
ruby as a narrator: what is destiny? is it a singular path that sets a course for you? is it a multitude of roads that allow any destination? no...its what you make of it. the choices you make, the people you meet, the battles you fight, the walls that need to brake, and the struggles in your heart. sometimes you can't plan things. sometimes life will throw obstacles you need to avoid, take, or counter. Yin...im glad you understand...I just wish I could of back then...I wish pyrrha knew back then...I wish everyone knew back then. my daughters know, your friends know, but back then...we were too blind...too...innocent...too...full of hope...we needed to grasp the truth, take it on and fight. we ignored it. we avoided it...we hid from it...but I'm glad your one of those people who know it...your mom didn't lead you...you did it all by yourself.

Meanwhile in a parallel universe where farts can be used in battle:
(farts coming from around the room)
Phillip: How's this for believing in destiny, bitch?
(Phillip farts in Cinder's face and Terrance and Phillip laugh)
Terrance: Let me have a turn!
Tyrian: Wait! Please! I have a lot to live for!
(Terrance farts in Tyrian's face and snaps his neck)
Phillip: I can't believe they fell for that!
(Terrance and Phillip laugh again)

Pyrrha, you were taken far too soon. Β Ever since I saw a picture of Pyrrha as the potential Fall Maiden (almost immediately around the halfway point of Volume 3), I realized something could happen... Pyrrha, in one way or another, was doomed to die by Cinder's hands. Β I just thought that maybe, just maybe, she'd make it through to the end of Volume 3. Β But she sealed her fate when she climbed that tower to face Cinder. Β In fact, I have a feeling that Cinder originally planned to turn Pyrrha to the dark side (because she's far more useful as a subject than as a martyr for the death of hope on Remnant), but Pyrrha's defiance in that final battle showed Cinder despite the stress Ozpin put on her, Pyrrha would stay loyal to the side of good, and Cinder couldn't USE that. Β So, when she sadly answered, "Yes", to Pyrrha's final question, Cinder realized Pyrrha was destined to be an obstacle in Salem's ambition and destined to stay on the light side, so Cinder brutally executed Pyrrha. Β The only good thing that's come out of Pyrrha's death is she's forged Ruby's resolve (and with it, created the mission to Haven).
Rest in peace, Pyrrha Nikos. Β You may not have saved Beacon, but your legacy lives on and will (hopefully) save Haven.

If I was given power that could essentially kill gods, that only got stronger with physical sacrifice, I'd take it. Fingers, toes, organs, my own voice...I wouldn't care what I would sacrifice, I wouldn't begin to give a damn about myself. All that would matter is setting things right. For Jaune. For Yang.
