Have you tried rendering with your GPU?

I'm not sure, but I probably did at the time. The thing is, my old computer was a total potato. Wich probably affected the rendering. I haven't been doing so much work on Blender, since I'm on college right now, but I'm looking foward for it again.

Thanks for the tip, though.

Oh, no problem. I made a glass of water also. about 700 samples, took a long time though, even with my GPU.

cool. Good use of materials too, I never quite learned to get that realistic look in Maya.

Blender is quite good on that.

is it simpler to get a glass effect for example? I've never tried it. Mental ray is one of the most advanced renderers, but super complicated, so it's difficult to get anything to look good until you know it inside and out.

No, there's an option where you can choose what kind of material the object is composed with. For exemple the glass is composed of a transparent material and with the index of refraction of glass wich is around this value 1.669.
Blender makes it simple to be honest and a few tutorials too
