There were several requests for tutorial on backgrounds, so here you go. I hope I didn't make it TL;DR.My favourite tutorials on perspective and composition:

It is useful, just my artistic side of the brains doesn't know what to do with this information.
I always read and save art theory related topics, but that implementing part does always stuck. It's like it makes a big mess in my head and I'm not able to draw a line anymore.
But I always like to see other artist's approaches.
Like painting the background first and then the subject. I never knew some people paint this way. I find it quite helpful by certain paintings.

Yeah, the practice part is always the most difficult.
Personally I always try to compose the whole artwork in the beginning, not the background or the subject, but the whole scene. I guess I should do a follow-up tutorial on that idea someday since it could be pretty useful for illustrators and all the artists who like to tell a story through their artworks.

I recently tried the grid system to draw a city landscape. I never understood how people can use this to draw. I was confused with this.
For portraits it's still a big no for me...but by architecture I find it extremely helpful to get the proportions between the buildings and the place right.
So I tried this and maybe I will try the 1/3 someday...never say never.
