Sure! The two genres are practically the same (diesel is more 1890-1950 while steam punk tech tends to be more napolionic era up until late victorian-at least in my mind anyway).

Aha! it's based on the fuel used! Maybe in 50-or so years people will call our era gaspunk or maybe nuclearpunk! atomicpunk? Nah, where does cyberpunk come in?
