So, I started this painting in the evening a couple days ago and I ended up working on it for eight hours straight. I must say I won't be doing that again. I think I killed my wrist. x.xI fell in love with this pose after I sketched it out on one of my mini canvases. The sketch wasn't quite right, so instead of erasing it I started fresh on a large piece of watercolor paper. I still plan to finish that canvas, eventually.
I really wanted the focus to be on Luna and the moon so I kept the background minimal. The Marabu Aqua Inks worked excellently for this piece with how vibrant and intense they are. I did notice that paper really absorbs color more than canvas does, so I had to have a lot more layers to get it as dark as it is. I used the Strathmore 400 series watercolor paper and it was able to handle the water and pigment decently. In a couple of spots though the paper was starting to bead. If I'm going to do any more night skies I may need to switch to the 500 series mixed media paper. That stuff is like a board it's so thick, and I didn't seem to have any beading with my Space painting. Anyway, I hope you like Moonlight!

Amazing colors in this one! The sky is beautiful with all those stars. And even though Lunas coat is dark it stands out perfectly against the background.

This almost makes me sorry I faved Canvas Series: Princess of the Night . I mean, not really, that itself is a great painting. But this one is not just great, it's magnificent.
The colours are much more vibrant, as you pointed out yourself. The paper really did absorb every single drop of it. Also, I love that there are no strong outlines. The contrast between the dark and deep blue with the bright white and the glittering stars is already good enough on its own and without the outlines, it really seems like the moon and Luna's mane are glowing in the dark. Actually, it seems that Luna in her majestic entirety is glowing, since you kept a white aura around her.
All in all, I really love this piece. This one is definitely one of your best.

I have been working on a detailed picture, more detailed than Take Off , but it's taking me way longer than I thought it would to finish it. I'm taking a short break from it right now to finish up a few simpler pictures then I should have that up hopefully within the next two weeks. I'm excited to know what your thoughts will be. Just thought I'd give you a heads up.

Maybe the reason why there are not as many faves or views is because this picture is so similar to Princess of the Night. People already faved a beautiful drawing of Luna so there is no reason to fav another one. If you upload very similar drawing so soon after the previous one, it kinda looses its impact, even if the quality increases. Anyway, that's just my hypothesis.
Something very detailed, huh? You have my attention. I'd say you actually deserve a break after uploading so many pictures in the last few days. It has been quite a ride.

I think you're right about that one. Oh well, I have to follow my inspiration wherever it takes me even if it means working on a bunch of similar pictures. At least you and I like Moonlight. That's what matters.
Now what's this about a break? I'm not sure where this long lasting motivation has come from but I can't turn it off, and I'm not so sure I want to.

I misread your previous comment. I thought you said you will taking a break but you actually said that you will be taking a break ONLY from the detailed picture you are working on. Now I know what you meant. You already uploaded some smaller pictures so it is more of a change of focus, I guess.
Anyway, you're newest Canvas Series: Luna picture is essentially the same pose and perspective as this with not as much detail. Well, you've pretty much admitted it is the original sketch. I faved it, because I respect your choice to switch hands. That, I could never do. I actually tried it a few times in the past but I rely way too much on precision and comfort when drawing. Since I don't draw nearly as much as you do, I don't really need to do it. But still, I respect it.
