Ok I have to give this one to VonPipkin... I was going to give you guys one thing but then she got into my head again and so I caved and did a lil color study of Macro. Still working on some things obviously but I like the idea she had with the blue mouth which adds to how alien he is. Kind of Pacific Rim in a way, (thank you Aunt Lindy) More Macro to come this month. Hoping the next submissions will be even better.Related content

this is adorable . I love your work spartan also is it just me or the fact that get I a gore magala (form monster hunter 4) vibe from this, since whenever I think of Chimera dragon I think of gore magala since it's so unique from any other dragon. Another thing I'd love if you give Marco a frenzy state like gore magala( kinda like Certo's karma) but of course it's your art. Keep up the good work.

Very good color study. I've gotta say, he looks very alien compared to the other designs you've shown us. Keep um coming, oh and by the way, why did you two classify Marco (couch Polo) as a Chimera Dragon? He doesn't seem very Chimera to me.

chimera dragons are mixed dragon breeds. not like if a fire dragon or an ice dragon have an offspring and it has physical traits of both, with one or the others power. chimera dragons are the result of years of breeding the same traits, with mutations being the main key to their creation. the extra set of eyes was once thought to be an unwanted mutation when it first came about until the chimera in question displayed signs of being able to function properly with them. chimeras actually have better eyesight than normal dragons since we're on the subject of eyes. the reason they're classified as chimera dragons is due to the fact that they have multpile dragon breeds in their DNA, but also have had their eggs tampered with.
taking the example I said before with a fire breather and an ice breather having offspring. both dragons have natural magic which emanates from them when nesting with the egg. this keeps the egg healthy and acclimates the offspring inside to what will be their own natural magic essence. the catch with this is, if say one one of the parents has a strong essence than the other, or spends more time nesting than the other, the offspring with tend to adopt the magic traits of that parent. however, with the chimeras, there may have been a fire or ice parent, but then an earth dragon may have been tasked with nesting, which influenced the magical traits of the offspring. and since there are more than one earth, fire, water dragons blah blah blah, there's lots of room for experimentation, and after several hundred years, the "science" of creating chimera dragons had been narrowed down to an art.
even more, chimera dragons have weaker magic due to all the external influences they were subjected to. they may be able to harness more than one magical element, but they will not have the endurance normal dragons would have at birth. swallow-tails (macro) are better at mastering elemental magic (fire and ice) than their hooded cousins. however, hooded chimeras are stronger, and have more knowledge of natural magic (i.e. spitters such as venom, fire and water and earth manipulation) when dragon-kind tried breeding the chimeras their offspring were significantly weaker, and malformed due to the way they tampered with the eggs. it wasn't until the chimeras had had enough that they seceded from dragon society and began breeding on their own that their offspring began developing with any sense of normalcy among chimera dragons.

Thaaat is one strong-ass jaw! I wonder if, much like a crocodile, one only has to tie a string around his snout to prevent him from opening his mouth. xD

in deed =] a rather stark contrast to the jaws of the hooded chimera species.
actually that trait of having the weaker muscles for opening their jaws does apply to the dragons in the story. There are a few couple instances where i show this trait being exploited by the enemy.
