Description

In this timeline the USA balkanized after its failure to defeat the Worker's Republic of Quebec in the war of '74. By 2013 things look pretty different in North America. The Federation of Columbia was one of the first large nations to emerge from the collapse of the traditional power structures in North america, spanning from San Diego in the south to the Alaska border in the north at its height. The union proved undesirable to the northern residents non-interventionist views as the more powerful southern states advocated for confrontation against Texas' aggressive expansion, leading to the peaceful secession of the Commonwealth of California. The two remained as allies and in an economic union, reminiscent of the close relations of Canada and the USA.

Columbia? This region was discovered and christened San Lorenzo de Nutka  by Spaniards.

This timeline diverges from our own in 1974, by which time the area had been part of Canada and the USA for at least 100 years.

Hmm I see, but a more interesting history would be if that region had consolidated as a Spanish colony and then became independent like the rest of the Spanish colonies from San Francisco to Chiloe. Remember that Santa Cruz de Nuca was the first town in Vancouver and It was protected by the Free Company of Volunteers of Catalonia garrisoned in Fort San Miguel.

Sure! And do not forget the Fort Nuñez Gaona, the first settlement in the present state of Washington.

I would have to agree with you. Certainly ITTL environmentalism is one of the main political agendas within the nation.

Yes, it embodies those ideals and geography, just not the same name.

I'm surprised they hadn't renamed themselves Cascadia.

There has been proposals, but ultimately none of the politicians and very few of the citizens thought it was of any real importance.

P.S. I didn't want to reuse that name too much ^^
