Why did Nova Scotia get all the south shore of Saint Lawrence? There were Quebeckers there.

Yeah, I was probably a bit stupid when I made this map. If I did it again today, I'd remove that part. Sorry for the mistake!

Ah Canada. What is now so big started so small. Though, I suppose this "Canada" is Upper Canada, and "Quebec" is Lower Canada. Then again, it was too big to be maintained as one area, so I suppose keeping one as "Canada" and reverting the other (Frenchier) part to "Quebec" would make more sense. Then again, it didn't stop the Brits from having Louisiana and North Louisiana. Wait... How did they get Louisiana from France?

Nice map, I think this is more or less what a plausible Loyalist America would look like (e.g. I don't see Texas joining them outright if they still split from Mexico, no SW War necessarily, etc.). Two things though;
1) Where would the capitol be? Somewhere off the Potomac I hope (personal preference ), and
2) What happened to New Jersey? I think Pennsylvania might've eaten it when nobody was looking.

Thank you! I've always been meaning to redo this map, but I just never got the motivation. As for your questions...

1) Probably! I never really put much thought into it, maybe there'd be a capital city built on the site of Jamestown for symbolic purposes? They'd probably just use Philadelphia or NYC, but they might try to pull a Washington.
2) Did I really forget to include NJ? >_> Jesus, to call myself a New Yorker...

Why is there the flag of Great Britain in canton instead of the flag of the United Kingdom?

ptwolv022 In reply to Arbarano [2017-07-21 04:39:51 +0000 UTC]

Because the US-that-never-was remained British, mainly English, and the English hate(d) the Irish. It was like racism, except they both were Caucasian.

So, Great Britain never annexed Ireland?

ptwolv022 In reply to Arbarano [2017-07-21 16:00:10 +0000 UTC]

Well, I would say why I think the flag makes sense (either butterflies or Irish hating) but I accidentally closed my browser the first time I tried to reply, and the computer crashed the second time, so I think I'll just skip the explanation and just get this cursed comment out of my notifications.

Besides the whole Ontario and Manitoba bits, there is also the issue of the Yukon River being entirely contained within Russian Alaska.

Yeah, I'll probably do a fixed map with different names. I do like the general borders of the country, though.

Interesting, that reminds me that I need to finish my own "no ARW" world. What's the global situation?

Upvoteanthology In reply to RvBOMally [2015-07-10 14:19:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Most colonies held on for a bit longer, leading to a more powerful colonization of other continents (everything is in a slightly worse condition than it is in OTL). Mexico is known for being the first big power to rebel, even though Paraguay totally did it first. South America wasn't very loyal, except for Brazil, which held on for a little longer than in OTL. South Africa is something of a British Dominion, while the rest of the former colonies in Africa are freed (save for Algeria, which is basically a French puppet). America had a pretty large colony in West Africa (much larger than Liberia), after slavery was abolished. Australia and New Zealand are about as populated as it is here, since a penal colony is a penal colony. Asia is a bit more Europeanized, with China experiencing a small period of being a French protectorate. The USSR is still around, with Alaska being an ASSR of the Russian SFSR. Things are kinda shit, but it's not a complete dystopia.Β

Cool, I may just make a world map for this. I'm kinda lost with what to do with my loyalist America world. Specifically, I want a Cold War scenario, but I don't want Britain's enemy to be France, Germany or Russia.

Upvoteanthology In reply to RvBOMally [2015-07-10 17:19:31 +0000 UTC]

That would be so cool, you totally should! Maybe make it have a cold war with Japan, since it doesn't really have any big nations to oppose it (if it doesn't attack Malaysia or Hawaii in WWII, that is).

RvBOMally In reply to Upvoteanthology [2015-07-10 19:21:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, there wouldn't be a WWII as we know it, since the PoD is so far back. And I already have Japan as a British ally.

How about someone like China or India? They might be vengeful of British colonization. Or you could do some caliphate in the Middle East, which managed to just barely hold off colonization?

Yeah, I had to trace it all by hand, which is why it looks kinda shabby. I'm going to redo it all in the future, on a separate map entirely.

Three minor nitpicks: 1) Ontario doesn't border Lake Ontario, 2) Manitoba barely has access to Lake Manitoba, 3) I don't think North Kansas is anywhere near Kansas River.

Otherwise the map is pleasantly simple and easy to read, which is good.

Upvoteanthology In reply to Al3ssio97 [2015-07-10 02:17:02 +0000 UTC]

In the 1800's, the US fought against Mexico, gaining a lot of land in the south-west. In this map, they never bothered to do that, allying with Mexico instead of fighting against it.

Why the bear on the flag? And what of Alaska?

Alaska is still Russian (because why the heck not?), and the bear on the flag is mostly representing the Canadian pieces of North America.
