This is in the Equestria's Purple Dragon fan-fic. Spike's a rare Purple Dragon who can weild four abilities. Rarity is a White Falx Cauda as most Falx Cauda are a more darker color, a White Falx Cauda is rare like the Purple Dragon. If a White Falx Cauda is born in the Year of the Dragon, a worthy Pony has to take the dragon in and raise it as his or her own, with a disguise spell. Its this breed that has to live among Ponies.

Spike was saved by an Elder Dragon of the Wyvern species, Paarthurnax. He took Spike's egg to the river and placed the egg on a cushion pad. He let it drift down the river to safety. Spike's egg was found by Princess Celestia, who was wandering the Everfree forest with her guards to get to the Ancient Castle. When they were close to the castle, the Alicorn spotted the egg resting on the shore. Celestia decided to take the egg in and hope it would hatch.

She used the egg as a test for a Unicorn filly, Twilight Sparkle, to hatch the egg. When the filly hatched the egg, she was accepted and for the dragon, Celestia took him in and raised him as her son. So far she read books from her private collection because Spike was exhibiting strange magical powers even if he's still very young. The Princess now read about a Purple Dragon that could make a mark on Equestrian history. She heard about the Disciples of Discord attacking a Dragon temple in the Everfree, and feared that they might come for Spike. Fearing for his safety, Princess Celestia sent Spike to live with Twilight's family and sent her niece, Cadance to secretily protect Spike if she discovers ponies with the Discord symbol closing in on Spike.
