Description Romanos IV Diogenes (1030-1072) was Basileus of Romans from 1068 to 1071.
During his reign was the great defeat of Manzikert, where he was made prisoner by Seljuk sultan Alp Arslan who released the Emperor in exchange for a treaty and the promise of a hefty ransom.
