What English haiku writers often don't know is that a true haiku doesn't count syllables but morae, which are a bit different. For example, the morae in this haiku count 10-11-8 (if I'm right).
I'm trying to make a moraic English haiku right now, and I think it's much harder than making one in Japanese. I really have to think for every single syllable how many morae it holds, which isn't so clear in English.

Haha. I love this! I actually tried my hand at a haiku earlier today. Not so easy! I did however get a bit carried away... and ended up writing several.
