I'm part of an art group that does different themes each month, and June's was black women in animation, and I knew I had to do my absolute favorite Disney princess!! Princess and the Frog isn't... the best movie for representation to say the least, but I've always loved it, and Tiana means so much to me. The movie came out when I had a long commute to college on weekdays on top of working nights and weekends, and that made me relate to her on a personal level that I'd never felt with the princesses that'd come before. Obviously my schedule wasn't much compared to Tiana's three jobs in the film, but the fact that a poor working girl could be a Disney princess genuinely moved me. She felt more human than any of the others, like a real person rather than a fairy tail ideal.
