Description Fenrir, also called the Fenris Wolf, is a giant wolf in Norse mythology. Another spawn of Loki and the giantess Angrboða, Fenrir grew so large and so vicious that the Æsir bound him in (nearly) unbreakable fetters. The fetters will of course break on Ragnarok and Fenrir will kill Odin in the final battle, only to be killed in turn by Odin's son Víðarr.

I based his look closely on a design I sketched a while back for what I call Ironwood Wolves - wolves used as mounts by Giants, Trolls, Orcs, Goblins, etc., with my thinking being that these wolves and Fenrir are related (Not much is known of Angrboða, other than that she comes from the Ironwoods). I changed the proportions a little to match Fenrir's increased size.

Not bad at all, though he's a bit too buff for my mental image of Fenris - whom I tend to imagine having a lean and hungry look, very much an animal that's been muzzled for far too long and lusts after Vengeance the way a hungry man longs for meat; this DOES, however, make an excellent inspiration for the depiction of Carcharoth from THE SILMARILLION (whom I tend to think of as the sort of overblown brute kept around by the insecure to increase their sense of security when it comes to their Home and their Machismo).
