Description

The Great Horned Wolf is the dominant canid predator that resides in the northern parts of the continent of Elysium. These large beasts travel in packs of up to 10 individuals, consisting of a mated, adult pair as well as their young from previous years. Together, they usually go after large animals such as young Sheephemoth, Wooly Tapirs, and Grandcerfs; depending on the size of the pack, such a kill can last them anywhere between 3 and 7 days. When not hunting, these large canids engage in social activities, such as mock fights, in order to tighten bonds between one another and to re-establish the hierarchy in the group. They've been also known to "sing" (more on that later).

Great Horned Wolves are confirmed to be a sapient species and can be communicated with via the use of telepathy-based spells. It is highly advised to make one's presence known before getting anywhere near the pack; if taken by surprise, the wolves can be very aggressive. Furthermore, upon announcing one's presence, it is best to allow the wolves to approach on their own, instead of "taking the first step.

A good method of ensuring one's safety when trying to interact with Great Horned Wolves is to... play on a harmonica, ocarina, or any other similar instrument. As stated above, these wolves have been known to "sing"; they do so by howling in tandem, weaving eerie melodies that can often be heard on cold, winter nights. By playing an instrument that makes a vaguely "howling sound", a person can ease the tension between them and the pack and thus establish a non-hostile relationship.
The best sign one can count on, is for the wolves to attempt to sing along with the harmonica/ocarina/etc. That is a sign of acceptance and an indicator that it is safe to interact with the pack, without an immediate risk of being ripped apart.
