Description A quick (really quick) watercolor I did for an art project. It is a scene from one of the fairy tales that the brothers Grimm put into written form. This particular one (from where the scene is taken), The Three Snake-Leaves, was always a favorite of mine when I was a young child, but I did not enjoy it quite as much when I reread it recently.

In the story a princess is having trouble finding a suitor because she demands that if she is the first one to die, her husband must follow her into the grave. The hero of the story will not be scared away though and marries her, but not long thereafter she falls ill and dies. The man regrets his promise but has no choice but to be locked inside his wife's tomb. Then a snake appears in front of him and the man, frightened, cuts it into three parts. Not long thereafter another snake appears with three leaves in its mouth and uses them to heal the first snake.
The man sees an opportunity to save himself and uses the leaves to bring the dead princess back to life. But the awakened princess does no longer love her husband and falls for a skipper instead. She ploys to kill her husband (I do not think that divorce was an option in these times) but with the help of the leaves the man survives and tells the king (the princess's father) about his wife's betrayal. When arriving home the princess is sentenced to death and placed on a burning ship where she meets her end. And so the man can live in richness without the nagging woman

There is no excuse for murder (infidelity is not good either), but the woman was really put in the most unflattering light possible. The man did not do anything noble (did he do anything else but marry?) that would earn him the many rewards he received either.

Beautiful watercolor. That is not one of the better known Grimm tales and I was happy to find a picture of it--and a lovely one too!

Wow.. this is beautiful, you're an awesome painter!!
It's just so amazing that you have such control over the colors and such..
The shading is also very nicely done... The bodies are well-proportioned, and the add of grey-like color in the background is a great touch.

In other words; I cannot point out a singe flaw in this painting, it's just marvelous!

You are being too kind. I can point out a hundred flaws, but this was still the best one out of eight pictures portraying the same scene Hopefully I learnt something about watercolors. It is kind of fun to let the colours rule and simply follow along (I do not deserve much credit for the parts that did turn out decent).

Your detailed description really makes me blush. I do not think that I can give enough thanks. A thousand thanks!

You are very welcome, I love giving comments like that, I don't do it often, only for things that specifically amazes me
I think I look old when I give critiques and descriptions like that..

I'm flattered I like giving those kind of comments too, although I do not find myself writing them very often... nor do they turn out as good as what you wrote. They are the comments worth the most (I don't think that it makes you look old Rather it shows an example of wanting to grow with art and let the exchange between human and image be something with a meaning. It also acknowledges the work behind.)

Thanks once again.

Well, I guess old wouldn't be the word.. you're right, though, I think mature is a better description...
(I'm only 14, and I make myself look older like that...)
And you're welcome, again.

0o0 that is awesome!!! I love it xD The man reminds me of Marth (because of his blue-on-outside-red-within cape) lol ^^

Thank you I actually made eight versions of this picture and in every single one something was reminiscent of Link or Marth (caramel-colored hair and side-parted hair... TP Link ). I must say it was a keen observation of yours to see through me like that.

Thank you very much, once again.
