Description I'm so glad Kindra managed to get a photo of the back of my cosplay. That was a god-awful ton of painting. :3

This is so amazing!!!!Β

I wanna do a male version!Β
For the inner coat you spray painted black and blue paint on white/light blue fabrc right? But what white colour have you used to get the back so beautiful??? have you made a pattern out of paper and then sprayed it too or drew that stuff mit pencil and then filled out with white fabric colour? x.x when I paint it never gets that beautiful, because my fabric doesnt take colour or the colour is stupid XDΒ

You're correct on how I did the inside. The white on the outside I painted on with Lumiere white acrylic paint. It works great on fabrics (as long as they're not stretch fabrics), it's very opaque, and has never faded or cracked to this day. Jacquard Super Opaque Textile and Marbling Color works beautifully as well. I didn't use a stencil for that design, just a lot of measurements painting things by eye. But if you are going the stencil route, matte spray paint should suite your needs just fine.

A male version would be so cool! Good luck to you dude!

Great cosplay! How did you get the detail of black swirls on the back of the cloak? Do you just buy lighter black and paint swirls over it in darker black?
I gots ta know!

Spicy-Seasoning In reply to JoanDT89 [2014-10-29 00:32:20 +0000 UTC]

That was actually done with a huge stencil I made and matte black spray paint. The black fabric was a slightly glossy satin so when the matte black went on top of it it created that cool effect.

Oh wow! What about the inside of the cloak? Was it two pieces of fabric or just all paint on black fabric?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Spicy-Seasoning In reply to JoanDT89 [2015-02-13 23:51:52 +0000 UTC]

It was two separate pieces. The inside fabric was more of a glossy blue satin that I spray painted to make that gradient and pattern.

Thank you! I was actually pretty rushed to make it. I would usually spend a few months working on something like this but I had to cram it into about a week and a half with no sleep. xDΒ

Question: How did you get the sleeves to sit/drape so nicely on your arms? It seems like they would spin so that the longer edge of the sleeve sat at your shoulder.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Spicy-Seasoning In reply to Renna-Mira [2013-07-15 09:57:42 +0000 UTC]

Well that top part of the cloak is basically folded over and I added the front of the sleeves after that. The sleeves also have a small back side to them that's only about two inches thick that you can see in the picture where I turn around and that's to make that shortest point centered on the top of my forearms. But you ask an excellent question because logically, they would definitely spin considering the weight of the rest of the fabric on my back. What I did to counter that is a strip of elastic that attaches to the bottom edge of each sleeve as they go under my arms and around my back. This distributes the weight so they always stay centered because my back puts tension on the elastic and pulls them under. I hope that made sense. Designing this cape was quite fun.

Renna-Mira In reply to Spicy-Seasoning [2013-07-15 15:26:13 +0000 UTC]

Oh BRILLIANT! I actually did notice the back side of the sleeves, and it was from staring at your costume for a LOOOONG time that I eventually made my own pattern for it. The elastic idea is BRILLIANT. Thank you SO MUCH!

Here's my pattern, if you're curious. I hope it works! [link]

Spicy-Seasoning In reply to Renna-Mira [2013-07-16 09:44:44 +0000 UTC]

No problem! Wow, your pattern is much more official-looking than mine was. I recall staring frustrated for hours at a green sticky note that I had scribbled mine on. xD But yeah, it's pretty similar in the setup and should definitely work for you. I'm excited to see your progress when you start working on it! I wish you the best of luck!Β Β

Renna-Mira In reply to Spicy-Seasoning [2013-07-24 19:26:21 +0000 UTC]

I hope you don't mind another question: where the heck are your seams? It looks like the cloak (aside from the sleeve part) is just one big piece of fabric. The standard-size 45" or 60" fabric isn't big enough for that, right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Spicy-Seasoning In reply to Renna-Mira [2013-07-25 08:53:01 +0000 UTC]

xD I don't mind at all. Remember that fold over I was talking about? It's actually a separate piece that's sewn on. I checked out your cloak pattern again and that red line that you labeled 93" is divides the two pieces of fabric, and is also where my seam is. Although there's technically a seam around the entire outer edge anyway since the blue fabric attaches to the black. ^^ So yes, I recall mine being a little less than the standard 60" measuring from the back of my shoulders to my heels. One big piece of fabric.

Renna-Mira In reply to Spicy-Seasoning [2013-07-25 15:24:22 +0000 UTC]

Blast. I was afraid that's what you were going to say. I think I might be too tall for that trick to work. But I LOVE how it looks without seams!
