Description Okay, I don't even mind Linkin Park. They're fun to listen to, though it's pretty much meaningless fluff.

But that's all they are.
You want me to take you seriously?
Then don't coat your "vent art" in Linkin Park lyrics.

If you want to be taken seriously, please use proper English. "Sorry but Linkin Park is not deep or meaningfull" or "Sorry but Linkin Park songs are not deep or meaningfull"
I think they are deep/meaningfull.
They sing about paranoia and depression in the first person view, it is clear to me they put a lot of thought in their songs. Sure, some are not that deep, but compared to most mainstream stuff they look like poets. :I

I like them, but I have to agree. I have seen artists with more meaningful lyrics.

The lyrics don't have to be deep for people to identify with them in some way. That being said, PEEL ALREADY, YOU MOTHERFUCKING ORANGE!

They have some decent metaphors, but are definitely not deep or meaningful. I think Hybrid Theory and Meteora (at least) were all about being picked on in high school. Yeah. XB
They're still one of my favourites though. I gotta adore that mid to late 90s-early 2000s nu metal/dub.

they're lyrics are just overgeneralized angst that most people feel they can relate to on some level.
still like listening to it though! ^^"

Eh, I really like Linkin Park, and have been a fan for a while. But I don't use their lyrics in my works...

....that much...

...anymore...

Okay, maybe I was a bit obsessed with their music in high school...

Really,I think Linkin Park just writes songs for people to decide what they're about. Like, the song 'Crawling' in my opinion, sounds like it's talking about vivisection. There isn't really a pint to the song, you have to decide what you think it's about. But,that's just my opinion. And,you're right, people over-glorify Linkin Park just like they do wolves.

I love Linkin Park and I do find their lyrics to be awesome (Runaway gives me such a strong sense of imagery), but I will agree they're not as meaningful as a lot of songs I know. Hell, some songs that aren't even that sad have made me cry because to me they're so powerful. I guess it's just hard to take someone seriously when they're not quite singing.

They're alright, but not the best in terms of deep and meaningful. Honestly, I find Johnny Cash to have a bit more soul in his music. His cover of Hurt? You could really feel honesty in those lyrics even though he didn't write them. [link] Even Nine Inch Nails said that they adored the cover.

"deep" and "meaningful" are in the eye of the beholder. (or in this case, the ear of the listener) If you identify with a song on a level that is more then just BAWWWWing, they can be quite profound and carry a lot of PERSONAL meaning.

Just because the majority of the people use their lyrics in a way that is shallow, that doesn't make the music itself shallow. It simply is.

That's my 2 cents.

Any basis for that argument... have you y'know like ever actually read the lyrics or heard any interviews with band members? Seems pretty meaningful to me.

Spikytastic In reply to darth-chunky [2010-05-13 15:27:17 +0000 UTC]

Have you ever seen the way most people use them?

It may mean something to them, but the lyrics have to be generic and marketable. They're made for mass appeal-- they're a popular band and they have to pander to the market, and that means not breathing too deep in the songs themselves.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darth-chunky In reply to Spikytastic [2010-05-13 15:31:11 +0000 UTC]

See there's two different arguments, maybe I misunderstood your original point. People outside the band may use the lyrics too much or in a way that only vaguely relates to how they feel in order to just be using lyrics from a popular band, people do that all the time and it annoys me. However, Chester Bennington himself has said that he finds it really difficult to make any music that doesn't mean a lot to him, hence his reasons for starting up his side project. I think each and every song means a lot to at least one band member.

Of course though, you're entitled to your opinion, I just felt like voicing mine.
