From the scars, Carol looks like she's been in quite a few rough scrapes, but has always managed to come out on top.

Courage.
But tell me, does she know one of the strongest parts of courage?
It isn't about being the strongest, it's about making others feel strong too.

She's probably my favorite out of all of them. You'd have to be brave to get all those scars and keep on going! And the scars don't detract from her beauty.

Another set of girls? Unexpected, but certainly welcome! Keep up the great work!

she is a warrior or some type of fighter, the scars are from the memories of her harsh curel past, all the family gone...

Aaah, interesting. After viewing this and looking through the comments it's nifty to see how you went through the development of her look and her responses to things.

How does that prayer go? "Grant to us the serenity of mind to accept that which cannot be changed; the courage to change that which can be changed, and the wisdom to know the one from the other."

Courage must tilt at windmills a lot. I think I'd like to have her in my corner when things go down.

Courage might have a tendancy to bite off more than she can chew (hence all the scars) but she pretty much always wins because she just never gives up.

So there will be only four of them?

What do you mean?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

diamonddraq13 In reply to SpiralingStaircase [2009-02-06 13:52:10 +0000 UTC]

Because if we are saying about "cardinal" virtues there are four of them: [link]

and three "theological": [link]

Though they are put as a combinaton as seven [link]

I am not sure of your plans that is why I asked

A rather stunning character design. The scars alone are enough to make a person want to find out more. But you add in the necklace which suggests a tooth or a claw ... leaning more towards tooth since a claw seems like it would be more curved. The fact that she's in warm ups or a jogging outfit suggests she's subject to changes ...

Even if I'm wrong with all of this ... it's still a very cool exercise.

TheSoylentOrange In reply to BalloonPrincess [2009-02-05 16:23:10 +0000 UTC]

It's actually a kind of horn. "Carol" has it as a memento of a battle she won against "Wendy" ([link] ), who in reality is the embodiment of Wrath ([link] ). See the horns at the end of her tail? That's what Courage has around her neck there.

What I like is that if you put Wrath and Courage next to one another, Courage is clearly the smaller and weaker of the two, yet the necklace proves that for all her wounds she's beaten Wrath simply by virtue of never backing down and never giving up.

The jogging outfits are a simple utilitarian contrivance- they need to be able to move fast and unobstructed, and their exra-planar outfits are a bit too attention-grabbing for the mortal realm...

You can't see it, but right now, I'm doing a Chasity Dance... even if these aren't perfect matches for the Chastities, it's more interesting then most sins related things already! This girl, sans scars, looks almost oddly normal... then again, my first guess was some sort of demon hunter type, and.. well, she is kinda...

Arganaut [2009-02-05 04:55:46 +0000 UTC]

Huh, well, I have to say this is a rather neat idea. TheFwank's post has really helped me in my decision and, though I must say courage is a good virtue to combat wrath (it would take courage to combat a sin who's main strength is going berserk), I must ponder why you didn't choose the actual opposing virtue to wrath, patience.

Courage is much cooler, however, I'm merely curious.

TheSoylentOrange In reply to Arganaut [2009-02-05 05:02:18 +0000 UTC]

We were thinking about it, but a straight 1-to-1 between the virtues and vices would be boring. Wrath wouldn't care about patience not fighting back; she'd just pound her into pudding. Humility wouldn't make a good mirror or Pride; there's no way the embodiment of Humility would ever make a decisive leader.

So, yeah, Patience might be Wrath's ideological nemesis, but Courage is the one that causes her to grind her teeth, because she nevers backs down and fights 'till she's burger.

TheSoylentOrange [2009-02-05 04:28:18 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's Courage, but Wikipedia-ing every virtue that starts with "C" isn't exactly worthy of Sherlock Holmes.

Just you wait- next mortal we put up, you won't be given their names and you'll actually have to figure them out from the clues!

i got it, and as i was about to post, you already said it was courage! i guessed it because she was obviously in a former battle with wrath, and looked exactly like wrath's stomach in human form. i followed clues! weee! but i still used wikipedia a bit...

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

TheSoylentOrange In reply to atomichippy [2009-02-05 04:47:44 +0000 UTC]

Well at least someone figured it out.

Yes, She's been in several fights with Wrath, and she's obviously taken a lot of hits. If you put the two next to each other, you'd see that Courage is much smaller and less-muscled than Wrath, and that's entirely intentional. It doesn't take courage to get in a fight when you're built like Schwarzenegger, but going into a fight at a clear disagvantage and never backing down, that's *Real* courage.

That's one of the spikes off Wrath's tail she's got hanging around her neck, by the way- a trophy from one of their battles the sight of which just drives Wrath *nuts*.

Not to mention her outfit is reminiscent of Wrath's and she's wearing something or other around her neck that might mean something..

Cadell001 [2009-02-05 04:22:10 +0000 UTC]

If not Courage, then I'm going to say Patience. The opposite of wrath. At least according to Wikipedia.

Thought process went something like: She's got scars, but her face isn't all evil. Is she some how related to wrath? Then I read the comments and someone mentioned being the opposite of one of the vices. So I looked the virtues up. And now I'm posting here to avoid working as I really don't want to start.

Okay, in all seriousness: my guess is that her true name is...... Charity. One of the Cardinal Virtues opposed to the Deadly Sins, in this case Greed. And it's in keeping with the "first-letter-naming" scheme.
