I like how you use the photoshop brushes like normal paint brushes...or at least, it looks like you do from the strokes that I can see. ^_^
Those belts must have taken a lot of time and patience. To think you used only 2 tools to create all those effects! I only really know how to use the brush and the eraser in photoshop, so a quick little explanation on some of the tools used in a picture is helpful. Even though I may never really use a computer program to color, I can practice with those tools to learn a new technique and try to apply it to other media.
Well, I mentioned it before, but you're very kind to take the time to write a tutorial to help people. You must have a lot of patience to separate everything out like this. And to make it look so simple, too! That means that you have a very well honed technique.
With all the views you are getting, I've noticed that there are some people who stop by here who have a strange way of calling "destructive" criticism constructive. I may not be a very good artist, but I can have an appreciation for those who are further along than I am without becoming so jealous and shortsighted that I only comment to point out minor flaws. Seriously, sometimes I think those people probably just want to feel better about themselves. I ranted a bit there, I'm sorry. I suppose with fame and talent there will always be people who try to drag you down!
You're very talented and what you have done for other people is simply inspiring ^_^

^_^ You're welcome. It's fun being someone's #1 fan. I'll try to do better work at keeping that title.
I think it may be best to say that it is a "double edged sword," rather than a reversed blade. But yes, it's true that popularity has it's own pitfalls along with the benefits.

Even more useful tips... I can't believe how simple and easy it is in the end, I always though popular artists like you have super-complicated techniques and I never though I could learn to use Photoshop properly, but thanks to you, I think I'm getting better just by reading your tips. These tutorials just keep getting better all the time. I usually have no problem with the clothes and their coloring, since I mostly like my style on that, but that doesn't mean I couldn't learn something new. ^^ I'm going to spread the word, my friends will surely enjoy these tutorials as well.

Hey, this is a good tutorial for the proper use of brushing/burning/highlighting etc. and the use of color tone, however I felt I should point out a few problems I have with the image (after all, constructful criticism makes a better artist!). The primary issue being your light source, you give advice on how to properly manage highlights and shadow however your own example demonstrates sub-par knowledge of the subject. Judging by your image you have multiple lights in multiple directions falling on your character (a big no-no!). I suggest you go back and retone this image with proper lighting and if you give advice on highlighting/shadowing please make more of an effort to have a correct example to demonstrate your suggestions.

haha u need to see my Act4 to see why i have diff light source
thanks for the nice chat ^.^

sentrien In reply to spirapride [2005-11-15 02:38:43 +0000 UTC]
Umm, regardless of your Act 4 you can't change lighting mid painting (it requires an assload of work and is improper method) not to mention if you do have multiple light sources the additional ones can not be equal in intenstity to the original primary light source nor should they be equal in intensity with eachother. Sorry to say it dude but the lighting on this is still totally wrong.

spirapride In reply to sentrien [2005-11-15 22:22:29 +0000 UTC]
well i dont wana do a debate with cha but if u think about the light source in this pic the tone for the skin isnt suppose to be like that so u are complaining but obvious issue that im aware of ....haha besides this is a tut for ppl ...a step by step for ppl
if u wana point at lighting u have misread alot of it..and if i wana change the sourcing it will be easy cause i still have my psd file ..which i have seperated my work in layer and i can simply change the colors by hue/saturation ,color balance..haha so my friend i wana thank u for trying
