N'awwweh, Pamela. <3 Gosh I love that child. She's definitely under the age of ten and she's all "psssh. I ain't scared of no Gibdos."
The undead of Termina are much more... friendly than the undead of Hyrule, I find.

I envision a world where the living and the dead coexist happily, feeding off neither, but respecting and sharing space all the same. I wonder if the dead might find the living to look spooky? With the smiling moon, I wanted to show a Termina post-Majora's Mask where everyone can be festive together. Though it's not much a gander to expect most Terminans to avoid Ikana Valley due to the presence of the undead! Little do they know, mummy just wanna boogie.

That's actually a very good point. Maybe ReDeads only attack out of fear ? Can't blame them, I would too if I were about to be killed !

I could live in Ikana. No joke. I just really love that place. If I got my hands on a Gibdo's mask, I'd be set for life ! I'd befriend them and get them to trust me, have dance parties sometimes too. xD

I'm thrilled that you love this. Does it capture the essence of Ikana Canyon, both geographically, architecturally, and characteristically?

Reymicx In reply to Spire-III [2013-07-19 23:36:20 +0000 UTC]

I do believe that you you did capture the Ikana's geography with some of the rough texture, especially on the rocks in the background and the house quite well. Architecturally, the layout is great, I really do like the way how the music box house looks in the piece. And characteristically... ... this is AWESOME!!! I just love the worn out, somber, yet happiness I feel from this!!!

Also, I totally love that the skull child/ soldiers are all enjoying themselves and that the composer brothers (2 of my favorite characters from the Zelda universe ) are providing the music!!!Β

Thanks! If I could fix anything it would definitely be the composition. It's far too cluttered around Sharp. However, I will simply learn from this and move on. Every piece of work is a learning experience no matter what you pursue. Mistakes are good fortune, for it shows you've room to improve. Such room proves the potential for evolution and as such, an impetus to not stagnate! Redundancy is my bane and it's in my utmost interest to make every piece better than the last. I implore anyone in whatever field they work to spend every day working harder than they did the last. If you do, your work will forever seem easier as you develop new methods to overcome old hurdles, finding yourself at odds with previously unseen challenges. Such challenges are the fruits of life.

Thank you. What about this speaks to you the most? Is it the color, the movement, the character? I'm curious.

Goodbye-to-you In reply to Spire-III [2013-05-22 01:04:42 +0000 UTC]

The color, lighting, and texture are what stick out to me the most. Also the characters do stay pretty true to the originals (except the moon, but I like what you did with him anyway. haha) The colors, gradient, movement, and texture in the sky is fucking fantastic. So is the subtle stone tower silhouette in the background; it's not too hard or sharp, nor distracting. I didn't even notice it at first, but when I did I was impressed. Also, the lighting on the roof of the music house came out well. And again, the complex reflections of light coming from the Blue Bubble, the poes' lanterns, and the festive lights are also what attract me most to this.
But I need to add that the composition is done very well, too, with the variety and placement of characters, making it pretty balanced (though the Gibdo on the very lefthand side is a little subtle. You managed to redeem it by adding the blue light from the Bubble's reflection on him). There are all sorts of details and several focal points which make this such a interesting painting to look at, along with a smooth, circular flow for the eye to trace.
Last note: The arm of Sharp holding up his baton is hardly noticeable. You could make it stick out more if you added more reflective light from his lantern and festive lights from above (which, logically it should be there, anyway, assuming he's not completely transparent ).
Hope that's the feedback you were looking for.

Wow, thank you! A fantastic critique, perhaps the best I've gotten. You point out things that even I had forgotten aboutβ€”it has been so long since last I looked at this piece. I don't plan on revisiting it ever; it's part of the past, but this critique brings up so many valid points, I may want to revisit my state of mind and some of the techniques employed in the creation of this painting.

You remind me why I enjoy making Zelda artwork. Thank you Goodbye-to-you, you made me day!

haha Glad to be of help! And I wouldn't expect you to pick it up again and fix things just because someone pointed them out haha. Trust me, I KNOW how painful it is to revisit a past work. When you're finished with it, you just want to stay finished with it. haha.

Tori-Fan [2012-10-07 22:46:10 +0000 UTC]

Today i wanted to do an Halloween illustration, inspired of Majora's mask specter, in Ikana Valley, i tried to find some ref of the house on google and found your fanart, and, i looked at it, a very long time to be honnest, and i'm still not bored of watching it, well i really can't, it's my new wallpaper...

Majora's Mask is my favorite game, i played it when i was teenager, and, one day, long time after, i started to draw, more and more, nothing about the game, but i always had this idea, in my head, wanted to do a fanart, an illustration of my feeling playing this game, the athmosphere i remember from my "childhood", what the game left to me.

I never was confident enough for try, because this game and his athmosphere touched me so much, that i dont thought i could even touch with my drawing at least a tiny bit part of this great athmosphere.
And, Ikana Valley is the aera, in the whole universe of video game, who touched me the most, and whom made me live great moment also. My memories are a bit blur and surely if i play the game again with my adult vision, i wouldn't feel the same...

If i write all of this, it's because, the fear i have to can't show in my drawing all the love and respect i have for this game and his athmosphere, disapeared front of your drawing. I can't really explain, but i think, you did a drawing that is so ... right, so just, so perfect, about what i want remember of this place, that i can't fight thinking, now, that an Art of Ikana who look so great, and so "true"exist, i can draw about this place now.

I know i may be not clear, and i'm sorry, i have no idea how tell you how much i love this art and everything i may feel front of it, but i think somehow it give me more freedom in my mind for put my feeling for M'sM on the paper, and i can't thank you enough for this.

I may sound silly, cheesy, or don't know, but being able to see an illustration who bring me so well back in time, in those moment i loved so much to play/live, and who is so close to my own vision of a place who touched me so well, i can't express how great it is...

Sorry for such a long comment, who don't always mean a lot, but thank you, and again, this piece is really wonderfull, and i rarely felt so much things front of a drawing of M'sM or any zelda
I really love how you represented everyone, like a (creepy) familly reunion, all the details you put, and the way you colored it (the sky and the skeleton who dancing, especially the one on the top... Β°0Β° the little girl who do sign with her hand... .w.) each detail remember me a memory, and i think it's really really awesome, to was able to do something who can make people feel the same than back then, well, me, i really loved feeling all those things from when i was more young

If i can finish my halloween drawing, i'll credit you if you don't mind, because it's certain i own it to you, and, that mean a lot to me. ^^

(English isn't my native language, and i know i don't spoke really well, i hope you not struggled too much to read me, sorry if so ._.)

Let me tell youβ€”your comment just made my day. Your words are touching, they brought back a feeling for the game even I have lost with time. Expressing ourselves as artists, it is this language which has no bounds, this mode of communication where we can summon long lost loves, memories, and intricate relationships that we had as children with the games that helped craft and expand our imaginations.

I hope you share your halloween Ikana's Canyon drawing with me when you are done. I eagerly await its creation! Peace be with you (and hey, don't beat yourself up when talking about how you feelβ€”be confident in your expression and people will take you seriously!). Never victimize yourself for saying anything. Your feelings define who you are.

Another "darker" entry! It makes me so happy, there was a little part of me that wanted to see Ikana in this contest.

Your coloring style is beautiful, and the composition is so interesting! I like how the addition of the lights gives it a bit of a pre-Christmas feel. Perfect for November. But you obviously put a lot of time and detail into this (and Pamela's got some serious guts!). Best of luck in the contest.
